Hi,
Have you ever met someone who is completely incapable of running their own lives? I have met many a person like this.
Only religion or the military seems to help them. There are people for whom religion is a better option than to be allowed to make their own decisions. If religion were completely abolished, these poor lost souls would have no one to tell them what to think and how to behave. Although religion is not necessarily for people who are capable of independent, productive thought and action, it does have its place no?
What say ye?

And if people who run countries believe in their religion and let that decide their decisions instead of using their brain we will all be killed eventually.
Last time I checked Bush was a christian, wasn't he?
Wonder how many people he had tortured and killed.

I say we publicly execute them along with all religious leaders. The world would be a better place.

remember when he said that Jesus told him to invade Iraq?
and now of course we know that Jesus was actually Dick Cheney, but hey, thats what happens when you let a guy who believes in talking snakes and magic fruit hold the keys to the nuclear arsenal.

That's a retarded argument, these "lost souls" do not need religion. They grow dependant on it but if you take it away they'll find a subsitute.

Belief in one's self is all the religion you'll ever need.
Organized religion is for those who continue to have a dark age mentality and believe in superstition.

if they agree to give up all their material possessions (to me), live in our commune, and undergo voluntary castration, then they can join my Away Team.

Question for those who believe all religion should be abolished?Anyone who thinks that is a fucking retard and is trying to remove peoples free will.
People that think like that should not be ignored, and we don't need threads pandering to the backwards out burts.

The fact that there are so many different religions in this world is proof enough for me that if indeed there is a "God", then "He" is completely irrelevant and inconsequential to us. If, by some chance, this supernatural being is the God of Christianity/Islam/Judaism, then I refuse to worship such a terrible and evil God.
People can live just fine without religion. In the beginning, there might be some difficulties, but after that people will adapt.
edit- To clarify, I don't think it should be abolished, but I hope that with time, people will become more reasonable.

If you think Bush invaded Iraq due to his belief in Christianity, then you are an ignorant idiot.

Bring back slavery and make religion a crime punishable by slavery. Problem fixed.

The OP does a great job of demonstrating that organized religion is for weak-willed.
You are right, organized religion needs to be around to herd the sheep because if it weren't, people would just use some other tool to control them.

Like a highly charismatic leader with a talent for fiery/inspiring speeches.
People who do not think for themselves are a constant danger to everything around them. Religion is not the answer, because Religion itself is at the reigns of a few individuals who manage to pull the emotional strings of a human herd.
