I think this is an interesting presentation on human happiness. I challenge you to draw your own conclusions, since I think this piece can be used to justify any ideology.

Actually he was just talking about his experiments.
Quick summary.
People like to delude them selves that they are happy.
There are evidence that suggests that synthetic happiness is just as valuable as real happiness.
Freedom brings less happiness.
Humans tend to choose freedom.
You can interpret this in many different ways.

What the hell is synthetic happiness?
lipe[cpc]

Happiness derives from pleasure, and pleasure is gained through contrasts.
Saying that artificial happiness is equal to "legitimate" happiness is wrong. Humans tend to append other values to actions - like merit, for instance.

Freedom brings less happiness? No, no, and no. Humans tend to choose Freedom, hmm I wonder why? Perhap being a brutalized serf your entire life isn't going to be that "happy" ?
Synthetic happiness? Nice clever language change. Let's call it what it is, False Happiness.

The beauty of human adaptation. That's what it is. Obviously, it's real. However people have been conditioned to refuse any sort of negative change. It's kind of funny, because in the end, who knows if it's really going to be negative?

That was a pretty good watch. Made a lot of sense, but then again was no surprise to me people generally accept their choice as better when they have to live with it.
I would be interested in seeing the effects on his statistics if his photo classes watched this presentation before the classes started.

Freedom brings less happiness.
No I think you are thinking of some guy mentioned in various psychology classes by the name of Frome (I think that is how it's spelled) he said freedom brings loneliness
I would say standard of living brings happiness and stress can potentially make people less happy but overall I would say most wealthy people are happier then most poor people
I would also say that freedom brings higher standard of living and therefore freedom brings happiness were people happier in East Germany during the cold war or in the United States I think the Berlin wall answers that one when you have to build a wall to keep people in it means they probably aren't very happy with their situation
This is overall though there are obviously other things that can make people more or less happy for example a heroin addict when they finally manage to get enough stuff to get them high they are probably happier then a typical wealthy person is at that moment

I think the only two people in this thread who know how to forumfall is Barb and nomad.
Honestly I provided my summary but no opinion. I will pick freedom over some bs notion of happiness any day. That is not the point. The point is "here is a nice video for you to watch and discuss". If you haven't watched it don't bother discussing because that is not the point of the post. Bumps are welcome :P.

I think the point to follow from the video is to adapt to circumstances you can't control. If you can do something about it, try to. But if you fail, or if you're struck with bad luck, just cheer up. At least you're alive. :)

So many stupid people are falling for the decepticon ploy now that they're multiplying.
We need a decepticon culling, before they grow out of control.

Yes actually for the most part as long as I am living all I need to be happy is what I need to stay alive and being able to
A. surf the web
B. masturbate while watching pornography
C. listen to music
I'm pretty much happy with that I have few friends because I don't feel I have alot in common with the vast majority of my generation from a 3rd person view my life would be pretty sad
but really most things associated with unhappiness (anger, depression) come from unmet expectations I have low expectations in life and I'm pretty happy
I also think that our society tends to set our expectations rather high
edit: I just realized that I just overlooked mentioning I don't have a girlfriend because I figured it was a given

Being so called happy is overrated anyways. All that serotonin and dopamine turning you into a giggly girly wuzz that thinks the world is surronded by a beautiful ocean of hearts and flowers. Fuck that.
