there is an easier way.
You go on the jury duty selection day,and you say, yes, i believe in rape. Child sex laws should be abolished. I beleive in theft and I believe in the right to shoot undefended people.
BAM, no jury duty for you....evah
And with that, you can't get put in jail. It's your beleifs. it's not against the law. IT IS against the law not to show up for jury duty selection though.

Jehovas Witness people get dismissed from jury duty all the time because they hold the law of god above all other laws.

Yea, religion is the still the best way to op-out. "Your all infidels and i cant participate with them" and thats not "crazy talk".

Getting out of jury duty? Why?
I went when I was selected, but we have to stay all day, regardless of whether we are chosen for a trial or not. I was chosen in the group for a murder trial. You can joke on here all you want, but get in the courtroom with the judge, and your tune will change.
Of course around here, it's mostly older people, making me the youngest there. Their excuses ranged from a small business owner that would lose too much time and therefore clients, to needing to pick up relatives at the airport, etc. It was pathetic listening to grown people trying to avoid jury duty. The selection was made alphabetically, not random at all. They skipped a few, and ended a couple away from me, in the last row. I actually was a little disappointed.
I hope you get judged by a 'jury of your peers' if you ever need to have your day in court. People that don't want to be there, will say and do anything to get out of it, and just want it over with so they can get back to their 9-5 job.

maybe because jury duty is not a duty, but just a fucking annoyance.

To whom? You? The accused? The victim?
How do you suggest a jury is selected? Or do you really just think everyone accused of anything should just be deemed guilty, based on the infallible police?

Great. So we change the laws to make anyone accused of a crime found guilty without trial, because jury duty is too much of a nuisance.
What if you were the one on trial though? Accused of murdering an elderly woman, you are sent to prison because nobody wanted the hassle of jury duty.

if you break the law then you are almost certainly guilty. If I ever kill an old lady she probably deserved it, imo.

Why would being pro crime or against certain laws exclude you from jury duty? If they exclude them, they are creating a bias to convict; it's a freaking witch-hunt then.

Ya, but asshole. realistically it's right at the jury selection that the law is flawed.
The lawyers get to choose YOU. that means, they try to stack the deck in thier favour, to win. In other-words, they will select an old lady if it's a rape case, because old people sympathize with victims. A girl if it's a molestation case. ect ect.
That isn't fair. They should randomly select jurors with ABSOFUCKINGLOUTLY no imput from the lawyers. If you want a fair trial that is.
So because of the way jury selection is, it is a mockery of true justice.

Its so they can have things 'their way' while obeying the law only as much as they have to.
They have a pretty picture of the world in their heads and they want to create it. So they have those who fit their ideals deal out judgments, it's perfect :P.

Imo there should be professional jurors that make up a jury, instead of any random idiot they pull out of a lottery. It could be a profession that requires a degree combining criminology, logic, and law, or something. Oh and their identities would be kept private from the public (although kept on some kind of record) so they could not be bought or intimidated. Something like that would be a lot closer to a justice system, imo. Right now you're at the mercy of the emotional whims of 12 random idiots.

What people fail to realize about jury duty is that you are the final say in the law. Juries are even capable of seeing a crap law and throwing out the case based on that, and even overturning the law. That is the point of jury duty.

They can't overturn the law. What they essentially do just say not guilty if they think the law is unjust.

That's why you have two lawyers that compete for a jury selection favorable to them. You go with your proposition and it turns into lottery justice: a jury that may be biased for or against the accused.

I'm going to vote guilty with sentencing recommendation of rape by a thousand black dicks, the equivalent of 5 years.

While he may have been a bit rough in his message he does have a point. If you don't want to serve in a jury you shouldn't have to.
