I am curious, is there any additional measures that the devs are planning on implementing to counter this growing issue? I understand and agree that this is definately not as big of an issue as it is portrayed. That being said, it is a relatively large issue and worse of all; its getting worse in a couple ways. I personally could give a crap about the PvE exploits, its the ones that players use solely to give them a sure win in PvP that are annoying to me. These include aimbots, speedhacks, teleports, stick behind hacks, etc.
Firstly, there are now aimbots and programs which allow you to stick behind your opponent using a combination of teleports and speed hacks through the most common of programs. Also there is a radar hack that allows you to see dots on your mini map where any player is. This means the exploits are getting worse and becomming much more of a potential issue for anyone who has the unfortunate luck of running across one of these skill lacking, win at all costs, kids.
Secondly, not only are the programs themselves getting more "potent" persay, their frequency of use is as well. This is most likely due to a number of reasons but 1 in particular I want to point out to the community. What I am referring to is the insane amount of whiners who are unfamiliar with game mechanics, or just cant admit they lost who cry hack every 5 minutes they are in game. These are the same people who have gm_help hotkeyed and run fraps with a hotkey behind DF as well. How are the GMs supposed to sort through the thousands of alleged hacker petitions they get a day in order to get to the legitimate ones? I bet the people who are truly using these exploits are loving this fact because they are fairly confident that anyone who actually does petition them will have their petition buried beneath a mountain of false accusations and they will never have a problem. Worse of all, this "cry wolf" effect as I am gonna refer to it; gives the devs the FALSE perception that there is really no issue because 99% of the claims they investigate are indeed bogus.
So I truly hope you all see how WE are screwing ourselves here by crying hack every time something which we know could possibly be attributed to lag, or something else unknown occurs. The bottom line here is there is a real problem here and it is a big one and it is getting bigger and we are the ones making it that way!
To the Devs, I hope there is some additional understanding on your behalves on this issue and most of all I hope that you start to investigate some sort of proactive approach, and fast! Relying on players to do your policing for you is obviously a really bad idea and is going to do nothing but make your problem exponentially worse by fueling it with publicity and inserting false perceptions into an already highly opinionated community. Why not think outside the box here? Implement some form of a program similar to what WoW uses (called Warden) or Punkbuster. Then make it so that there is some sort of visual indicator on every players screen that turns red (kinda like a tilt light on a pin ball machine) whenever any sort of questionable actions client side occur. Then make it known that when that happens, all their actions for an undisclosed amount of time will be monitored server side. Additionally, implement random server side checks to the client for any sort of odd behavior (but most importantly make it so that the player sees that this is happening visually so they know that it is not just BS which is what most people think of the post by Tasos recently on this issue was).
AV: You obviously have a great deal of creativity and skill to have come this far with such a small team; why stop here? That is like getting over the hump then stopping on the downhill stretch right before the finish line, cmon!!!
