pretty simple really but heres my thought:
have each skill as it is used skill up lesser magic not the individual skill itself. As your lesser magic increases your success rates of all skills within the tree increase as well but the more difficult skills wont start gaining success rate until later on in lessermagic. This would mean that even though you have the ability to cast a high level magic you may just end up spending the reagents it requires.
In addition to this though change it so that all magic increases in skill MUCH faster but that it also degenerate at some rate that is yet to be determined. But i do think the tiered system with the magic trees should stick (as in less magic unlocks great which unlocks elemental/others).
