I know quite a few Marines, and I love Marines. Mainly I love Marines cause they are nuts and will do things no one else will. This could be fishy but at the same time I've met some pretty dumb people in the military, I wouldn't put this past a Marine...though he should know better...same rules apply on military flights...

Oh, and checking a gun is not illegal...just the explosives/ammo. His saving grace (if any) will be that the Vegas folks are incompetent...how do they know he didn't claim the items in Vegas and just kinda shuffled him along.
