I'm in the market right now for a new guitar. I'm looking for something as I guess you could say "most professional". Whats the best guitar you've ever played ? What are the best pickups in your opinion? Personally I'm looking to spend up to 2k bucks , but any suggestion for any guitar in any price range would be most appreciated. I was considered getting a Gibson les paul studio but the pickups it comes stock with just don't seem up to snuff and I would perfer just getting a guitar that comes stock with seymour duncans or emgs ( to save me the hassle and headache of paying to customize it ). Now my sights are set on a shecter black jack , but im just not sure. hope someone on here plays.
thx

I can't say I know much about guitars, but the Strat is one damned sexy piece of equipment.

strats are shit. so are gibson les paul studio. if you want a les paul, find a used standard and buy that.

I would go with a 52 reissue telecaster. best guitar I have ever played. if you want something a little more interesting go look at G&L asats, they have some very nice options and are a good update to the normal telecaster.

What style of music are you planning to play?

Which type of guitar tone do you prefer?

If you are use to playing V shaped guitars those are generally good however the lack of neck pick up is a downside and I heard theyre a bit overpriced for what you get. The pickup is a blackout which most people consider better than EMG 81/85 for harmonics and whatnot.

Im sure there are better guitars out there if you don't like Vs or wish for a neck pickup. Try ibanez for regular shapes.

For metal, I use an 80's Jackson Soloist, but some of the later Ibanez guitars are very good for this style of music as well.

Pinch harmonics are possible on any solid body with enough gain, so it is more an issue of taste.

What you want is a solid body guitar with high gain pickups.

A Les Paul works, but the ones I mentioned allow for the use of a floyd rose style tail piece, which is kinda ubiquitous when it comes to "crazy pinch harmonics" ala Van Halen, or Mr. Vai...

I'm playing on PRS CE 24, its by far the best guitar I've ever played. The HFS pickups it uses are pretty fucking hot and would put them up against EMG or Duncan any day. The tone is just amazing coming out of my Triple Rectifier half stack. Not to mention it's like playing on butter, silky smooth and effortless.

Personally i'd go for a PRS. Sure you could go stock and they are generally fucking amazing guitars.
