You apply by hacking in to their computers and replacing their screensavers with your CV

Thats something I never understood either. It looks like they would want a closed circut system not that it would garuntee safety but it would surely help.

EXACTLY

the canadian government has two "nets" an intranet. Which everyone is privy too. They have NO internet access. what so ever. If you are caught leaving the premise with even a USB key, you are fired on the spot.

And workstations that have internet. Thier usb drives, cd roms, and floppies are locked down. So you cannot pass information from the internal net to external net.

THERE IS NO ONE that has internet access in certain government bodies in canada. (department of defense is an exception, and they have been caught many times with compromises)

It's the way the US government should run. But lets face it. Darpa was for unilateral government communication. Hence why the US government has everyone "connected" to the net.

Shit for 3 mil, i will do the consulting myself. Very simple. Put the entire fucking US government on one huge INTRANET. any computer joining that domain (say @gov.US) , USB, CDROM and FLOPPY doens't write or read. BAM, government has full access to everyone else within gov.us, But no leaks.
You would have quarter of a million domain controllers. But the redundancy would be fucking awesome!

If universities can do it (internet 4 anyone?) than why can't the US government.

well not sure. some fudge plugger on a random gaming board swears that acronis is the answer to every single thing that might arise. they might have to use it to take on a gibson. especially if the plaque is an admin.

but none of them are IT pros. they just hack gibsons.

well, i heard some asshole that thought nero could solve everything, better than acronis. Would solve all. Maybe you need to find out who that cock gobbler was, and tell em to give your friends a call.

Could be the difference between a 3 way or a 4 way.

hacking your gibson is serious business. it would take more than 3 or 4 to kill the kernel. maybe if they use that fudge pluggers advice, use acronis, they might bring the gibson to it's knees.

it's actually to combat china. China's got a huge amount of them, in the government. And their sole job is to break into any government computer system in the US.

Lets face it, Telco's wouldnt have used Chinese equipment if western suppliers hadnt been so fucking greedy about making cash, its all about long term investment

Sell the framework at a lower cost, they are always going to have to come to you for the parts to work correctly in it, and its your coding in all those MSAN and shit as well

ahh well, they will learn from this folly too late it seems

Yeah, my father's old squadron was on a dedicated intranet. They had one computer set up for internet access, but it was not connected to any other computer at all.

I don't understand why this is a difficult thing to do for power companies, etc...

Any person with half a brain should see this is a round-up not a recruitment.

that is the most stupid thing i have heard this morning.

You realize, they can't arrest anyone for "demonstrating" how to hack a computer. That would be entrapment.

The job, i am more than sure is legit. China recently has broken into some key government places (IE whitehouse) and nasa. The chinese government has denied the claim. But the IP's originated from china. So the US government I believe is looking for people to counter espionage. Secure computers.

Really?

Entrapment happens all the time.

Example:

This is Chris Hansen, NBC Dateline, have a seat...

it happens with perverts, drug dealers, potential murderers [yeah i wanna pay you to off my wife] and tricks looking to hook up with some 30 dollar prostitute pussy.

Jesus biggunsar, I wrote you off for just being a mouthy tard, but I'll add obliviously IGNORANT to the mouthy tard part.

But it's easy for them to keep track on the people that do those demonstrations. :)

I guess they haven't realized that people might be using proxies in china because US government agencies might have hard time getting access to those proxies.

Other than that i guess this might actually be a legit attempt to get some skilled security people recruited, hacking is not really something most schools teach and it's propably pretty hard to find people for jobs like this.

You honestly don't think they have people smart enough in the government who can analyse a packet. Fuck, that's basic 101 ccna course there.

And i will tell ya what. Proxy or not. If that packet is tagged with a proxy ip. You dont' think the FBI would contact that proxy server provider, asked who tagged that packet at this date, that time? Seriously.

THEY KNOW it's originating from China.

"Sounds like a bit from Chris Hansen", I agree sorta like some fishing scam.

But frankly I don't think they are trying to pin down people. Whose to say who is a hacker. A lot of the things we do now could be considered hacks 15-20 years ago because a lot of these programs we use didn't exist or if they did were very basic. I'm sure most of you use music programs or torrents. I'm sure it could have started as underground .alt sharing early on, but now it's set in stone as standard, business as usual.

While most hackers aren't out to cause trouble. I have read quite a bit of an increasing amount of foreign hackers infiltrating US networks. While I'm sure there's the NSA and all the other computer security companies I doubt it's enough to stop foreign governments who dislike us from spending gross amounts of money on equipment and data-mining to break our networks.

I guess it's sorta like DRM, make a game with DRM and drive away customers and fish the pirates with a nice sign saying "Crack this motherfuckers". While a game with a standard CD-key and no DRM will probably attract a lot of people and although pirates will be on it. Sheer fact is they won't be as compelled to be against the game.

I wouldn't say it's a case of if you can't beat them join them. More like a case of I'd rather have these guys enjoying our support and hurting the enemies than hurt us.

I guess the government is seeing moore's law in effect and the expansion of the internet in the next few years is gonna sky-rocket. They are trying to cover ground that continuously expands.

No, i'm saying that the technical expertise to analyze the packet isn't enough.

I was just talking generally about using some computer as intermediate in an attack, bad choice of words i used because i cba to ellaborate.

Torrents and file sharing have nothing to do with hacking, other than that i agree there's a large number of people using tools that weren't available 20 years ago to spam and do all kinds of nasty stuff like botnetting without needing any actual skill in programming etc. because nowdays selling those tools is a lucrative bussiness.
