1. Not really effective, unless you know the trick and have less than 100 average ping.
2. Some PVE players and only very rarely pvper
3. Mainly when they farm mobs or want to look 1337, and sometimes when ganking a farmer.

What makes them so bad ? The range ?
And how's the damage with Knives ?

The range mainly. If you can stay on someone for more than a couple of hits then the DPS can prevail

Allthough when purely just standing toe to toe with a 2-hander knives dps loses a bit...atleast that´s what i´ve heard.
Trick is to stay behind your target, your swings take a lot less stamina so you can afford more sprinting.

Wanna try Knives when I start playing. Think I'll have a good ping always.
Are Knives easy to find on mobs and stuff ?
And got some more tips on using them ?
Thanks for the answers already.

I'm not sure what mobs specifically drop them, It would be fairly easy for you to take up weapon smithing so you can craft 'em yourself.
I don't use them so I can't help ya there. Horizontal swing for the win though :D

The elf NPCs often drop r0 knives at least. Might want to try those.

Find akathaar (or something like that, spelling that name is a bitch) spawn and farm away, each drops rank 10-20 daggers and they´re easy to solo. There´s tons of newbie weaponsmiths too, and they are usualy willing to craft anything pretty cheap, in most cases just bringin materials is enough.
The arc of the daggers is wide...and i mean really wide, nearly 180 degrees, so use that for your advantage. you don´t have to necessarily face the target, just swinging about there is usualy enough. Also, the range is longer to the sides than directly to the front, so avoid attacking directly.
Be carefull about grey griefers though...you´re hitting a lot of things with the arc you have, even without having all that much range.

Test:
My dagger skill: 50
My Friend 1h blunt skill: 60
we didnt move, just hit until hp get >5%'
and we didnt use p-attack
= I was first at 5% and my friend was around 40%
1h dps: Sword>Axe>blunt
knives:
range = too small
dps = need 2-4 more basic dmg
skills = cd is faster, but also harder to hit
skills = seize is bullshit, same range as normal attack, so if u are enough close to hit, why use seize?
sry for my english, but I hope u get the point.
I use daggers only for fun, ofcourse I have polearm skill and archery too...

Seen any 1337 Knives PVP user around ?
I dont like knives basicly due to the damage per hit. This is average 6-7 dmg per hit. I think it should be 9-10 atleast. If your target runs, your going to miss alot of hits due to its range. Higher damage should even that out.

Yea, ran into an archer that used them very well.

The other problem with the low damage per hit in comparison to the heavy hitters is the gear of the person your fighting. If your fighting nudes daggers are great. If they have good gear on they suck. The gear takes a large chunk out of each hit and that effects the small damage makers much more than the heavier weapons.
I dont really understand the low damage.
The way I see it, if we assume all weapons start with the same base DPS, then every bonus should lower that DPS and every advantage should raise it.
Daggers can't use a shield, so they should do more DPS than one handers
They have zero reach, so they should do more DPS than any two hander with reach.
By simple rules of design balance, if every blow connects over a significant period of time, daggers should out DPS any weapon in the game.
I don't use them personally, but this is how I would assume it should work.

they do about 3 damage more than a 2 hand sword, 7 damage more than a polearm, and about 4 damage more than a sword / board combo.
So their dps really blows.
They need to be much faster or do about 3 damage more per swing.
I use them exclusively and they work well for my setup, it works extremely well, but it's about it.
Basically try to open ranged, with rend, followed with arrows, then rend and head in with daggers blaring. Use the very wide arch to stay out of your opponents reach. A daggers arch is nearly 180% and its long about same as 2 handed axe / mace. Key is to do run by attacks or to get a step ahead of your opponent and stay to his back.
One key thing I want to see is dagger parry blocking more. It only blocks about 50% damage while 2 handers block about 80% damage.
This makes blocking 100% fucking pointless with daggers, yet they are the best fit for block, attack, block style fighting, but with the damage your taking you just fuck yourself over.
So don't bother using parry with them.
Key is to debuff piercing damage, and then try to get many hits in. There are a few spells which just dominate the enemy when used in conjuction with daggers.
A little more forward range wouldn't hurt either. lol

I would strongly recommed enchanting/transmuting your daggers. If you can get them to do arcane damage then your opponents armour will not really matter since no armour has any significant resist to arcane.
Also Knife Mastery was updated in a patch recently and it is supposed to up the damage, but i have no idea by how much.
Anyone know?

Well if Knives are piercing damage then a good magic debuff would be Necromancy's Piercing Weakness.
But how well do necromancy spells do vs. players? In the above quote it talks about arcane(Greater Magic) magic and armor resist.
Any thoughts?
