Depends - how paranoid are you being? Do you suspect enemys in the area, or are you just traveling from place to place? Are you engaged in other combat (PvE)?
It's fairly easy to get drawn into what you're doing and be taken completely by surprise. On the flipside, it's also extremely fun to sneak up on a group occupied with PvE and wipe them, or set up a roadside ambush and jump travelers. It's fairly hard to get back to being hidden once you begin your attack (people will look for you until you get found), so you have to be decisive.
On the defensive side, it's all about awareness, which is inherently limited by whatever else you happen to be doing.
When sneak-attacking, it comes down to personal cunning, discipline (attack from too far off and your prey will run, especially if you outnumber them) and patience (it's easy to not wait quite long enough for the perfect moment) , plus good intuition on the part of your unit's commander.
In short, yes, it works, and yes, it's fun.

Ahh, thats good. I was hoping I'd get that sort of reply.
I don't want to have to start another thread, but this is a little off-topic.
Is naval warfare too expensive? I haven't seen much, along the lines of videos, with either multiple or very large ships.

In order to construct most ships, one needs access to a clan city with both a shipyard and a harbor.
A harbor is 250 construction modules, a shipyard is 750. One module is 250 gold, 50 stone, and 20 (refined) wood (equal to 50 timber), so the total prerequisite to shipbuilding is a quarter million gold and 50,000 each of timber (raw wood) and stone, plus the module costs of all buildings required before the harbor. After that, the Shipbuilding skill itself is 15,000 gold. This is, simply put, a huge amount of backend just to build naval vessels with actual combat capacity (rafts, which can be built without either, have no cannons).
Yes, it's expensive, but once people finish the required building I suspect naval battles will be far more frequent. After all, most crafting skills cost less to train to 25 or so than to buy in the first place, and that's a lot of boats.
By the way, if you want faster replies send me other questions in PMs :)

So my answer seadly it dosent works like it shud be...
1, you can turn of the shadows.
2, you can turn down the grass boot speed , so you can hide in a midle of an empty flat desert.
3, the char even if standing soo fare that you cant see his/here name ,clan and dont muveing in a full leather armore you can see it well
BUT hackers can hide well who are jumping out from nowear :bang:
After all I like the game and I hope AV will decide something to handle kind of nonsenses.

1) Okay, and? If you were just sitting out in the open you'd be seen even through shadows.
2) Not exactly, density can be turned down, but there are still trees, rocks, and other features to hide behind, maybe try using those and sneaking up on a target's back instead of his front? Guess what, you can't stealth up on the side of someone that can see in real life either.
3) Again, try coming from out of the enemy FoV, preferably behind them, and preferably while they're preoccupied. Also, hackers, seriously? I've seen maybe 3-4 speedhackers since release, and all got banned before my eyes thanks to /gm_help (now /gm_report). They are anything but common, and anyone can jump out "from nowhere" with a little bit of planning and patience.

ok I understand your point ,and ones again I like the game how it is ,but lets be honest its not workeing how it shude be :sly: it depends on video options and only that what I talked about ,I have a power PC and even I turned down the options :ninja: to answer the question from the other side ...
And you started your post like "Ok and?" I think you meen ok and what? You know what , use the shadows for 3 days and then al we are interested in this thread will waiting for your answer :sly:
Shadow of=spot
Shadows on = damn cool looking world and incredible great atmosphier
My hope ,after a time (year or something) the engine will pach like you can run the game even in a non power PC with full shadows and shadow "of" option will be disable.

It works well, its pretty easy to sneak up on people and itsn ot too hard to stay hidden either. For example i went pking in human lands and got disconnected a few days ago. Some fat dwarf stole my mount beforei could log back on so while i waited for the rest of my clan to hijack me a new mount i sat down at the bottome of this large tree. About 5 different groups of moutned pople just ran right past me without noticing me one of them had about 10 people in them.

its super easy to sneak up on people so stop complaining. I have all shadows turned off and i just crouch walk to people using trees/rocks/hills to hide behind. Noise it what saves me most the time

Ultra mega easy to sneak up on people in day light while they are looking in your general direction half the time. lol
As said many times before use the terrain, there is almost zero 100% flat land in DF, sure there are a few places where its semi flat, but most areas have at least a few ground bumps / rolling hills nearby.
Between using people as decoys, and hiding behind trees / plants etc, you can be super stealthy.
I was behind a bush one day for like 10 mins waiting on my friends to flank the other side and to block the escape route. I was so close to the group I could have pulled a polearm and hit them. But it was dark (night is dark as fuck even with gama maxed and shadows off).
Whole trick is to be patient, understand you might have to walk a really long way around to get to the persons other side if you want a different angle of attack. Then plan your first few moves. If you do that you can quickly dominate a group.

This. This is why darkfall has so much potential. Rather than being a spam fest, you are rewarded for using the terrain to your advantage. I know exactly what you mean about circling an unsuspecting group or setting up a trap to lure them into a gully or canyon for the slaughter :D
I see people asking in other threads if healing should be increased and this is why i say no to it. In other games, teamwork is co-ordinating damage spikes and healing spikes to stay alive. In darkfall, good teamwork is having a plan prior to attacking and executing it well. The only pain in the ass is when you spend ages creeping up to a completely unsuspecting group only to get a bead on them and see that they are allies :bang: lol

Shadows & grass should not be an option as far as disabling. I believe its an important part of the game being able to use the enviroment for tactics.

Idk how stealthy this is, but i figured you'd like to hear me recount what we did to some *** = D
Sitting on Yssam, we were riding up to go do a Thainguard group for cash/loot/skills/whatever lol. One of our buddies who was soloing oaklords was getting attacked around this large temple by 2 guys. There are fairly deep trenches around the temple so its almost on a platform, and it has a raised up lower level u can get on top of extremely easily with a mount or launch (more likely a mount)
there were about 8-10 of us including our guildie who was being chased. He was on the east side of the pyramid running like a madman to keep them off of him while we were heading north from the west side. We went into the ditch on the left and all dismounted (but we didnt unsummon our mounts) then our guildie ran them on top of the temple towards us. It would have put him much higher than us. both of them followed very closely, and we all drew our bows and held our mouses down pretty much.
They jumped over us as we were looking up, and between our magic and arrows we killed one mount, injured another all in mid air. We then mounted up and proceeded to chase them down. and kill them for some decently nice loots and no deaths = D
^^^^^^ by FAR my favorite moment in darkfall ever^^^^^^^^

It to spot an enemy? I mean, when they are trying to blend in or are hiding in some area...Does the real time stealth system work?
This game never ceases to surprise me. One time shortly after starting, I was riding in elf land and saw a single player standing in a clearing. I had no intent of attacking him, was just gonna ride by, but at a reasonable distance in case he wasn't so inclined. When I was almost close enough to get an ID on him, about 6 to 8 others STOOD UP right around him. These others were totally invisible until they stood. Apparently crouching, even with shadows and vegetation turned way down, make you harder to see.
Another time, a week or so ago, was out PvEing with some others. A large group of Furries came by and the chase was on. I was "lucky" enough to have at least 2 after me. I jumped into a mote and swam underwater to a mob castle in the center. Went around one side trying to find the main gate with the intent of playing hide and seek in town. Just as i was about to get to the gate, another furry came around the corner in the other direction. I was apparently just out of field of view so I flattened myself against the castle wall in one on these corners where towers connect. I was hidden from the second furry, and shortly the first one came from the other direction and just stood there for a few seconds apparently seeing him companion. How he didn't see me, being not more than 30-40 feet, and right in front of him, I'm sure was because I was wearing Leather, and blended into the coloring of the castle stone work. These two apparently thought I went under water again and began searching back the way we came allowing me to slip away.
Real STEALTH is a fact in DF.

Well, maybe I'm wrong, but how disabling shadows could help with sneaking ? Others will still see your shadow, lol.

It works pretty well actually.
Had a situation just the other night, that i spoted a target, followed him, observed him for a while, waited for him to do something that was dangerous, pounced. I only had to shoot him with 1 arrow and he was dead. He had a full bag of goodies that made the kill worth it.
Its like anything else, pick your mark and wait for the right moment. If you just expect to sneak up on everybody in the game and forgetting your environment, you'll never get away with it.
Or another instance, on Yssam, was running down to a certain hamlet. Coast looked all clear. I see 2 men come out from plants and open fire with bows. Start running only to realize im completely surrounded by 6 people. They had me dead to rights, no escape. Very well done to them.

The terrain makes for great concealment. Night is Dark, which is awesome. My personal favorite is walking through a corn or wheat field, especially crouched. It makes it almost impossible to see you.
You can't push a button and go invisible, you have to actually be sneaky. It's awesome and one of my favorite things about the game.
edit:
It is very easy to get "tunnel vision" on the mob you are fighting or the node you are gathering from. If you use that to your advantage and have patience you can do good.
