Well done all those who managed to get a couple of weapon skills to mastery before they fixed it

• Attacking an invulnerable player will no longer skill up the skill you are using
• You will no longer skill up by using the conscript (starter) weapons

just going to make macros more complex than just 'click click cilck click'
now its click click click click hotkey new staff click click click, new staff, all the way down...... but then again it rewards the ppl who kill afk macroers now, finally.
People gaining skill ups from killing AFK people at chaos stones weren't AFK themselves.
Until they actually make the game so it is feasible to get your skill up from mobs without blowing your fucking brains out, people will just macro.
They should:
1) Remove skillups from hitting players
2) Only have magic give a skillup if you hit someone/replenish your stats with it
3) Makes skillups much faster across the board
4) Balance PvE so people will level skills up naturally through it

you do realize people will just macro with like 20 rank 10 staves now right?

macro can simple use a new staff/weapon every cicle of sparring/launch spells
just place them into hotbar..
up to 90+ (using all hotbar possible from 1 to 0)

hehe have fun settin up the macro required to use and swap out staves. Granted they arent hard to get looted staves I got a sack of them myself from first week of playin and killin lower lvl mobs. I will be lookin to see how many staves I can get from all the people that get spell skills but no real time usage of the skill and will still suck with them. Good patch and should be good fun hunting all the morons coming out of town now.:sly:
get 20 rusty sword. put on macro the hotkey # for rusty sword before it starts attacking. problem solved

Its much slower now.
Previously I could burn through x amount of reagents with the noob staff and gain x amount of points in magick school, regardless of the lvl of the spell i was casting or the school level.
Last night and this morning, however I got significantly less points in the school for the same amount of reagents as the night before the patch, with r0 staffs.
Today I have been grinding out the last few points to 50GM with a r40 staff and reagents and it is taking less time, and less reagents.
So staff lvl does count now. I was using heal other around lvl 35-42 with the r40 staff and easily hit the last few points in GM with less reagents.
Why don't they just say 'fuck you' to all casters while they are at it?
Making the skill up faster but requiring your spell actually hit something is only a "fuck you" to people who suck at magic and want to level it up while shooting into the air.

Heh. Well, all non-starter weapons have durability loss, so, while you may be able to do some unattended macroing (against EULA) to swap weapons after some time, it'll certainly cost you.

Why the hell would you want to force people to PVE?
Player freedom, remember that?
If all someone wants to do is PVP, then he should be able to, without being forced into a PVE grind.

I think that if you can't gain skill from the starter weapons then they should at least make skill gains go faster if you have the right rank weapon.
Say before this patch if you had 40 skill in 2h swords, it would take you 600 swings with the starter weapon to get from 40-41. I think that if you used a rank 40 sword it should only take, say 200 swings/hits/whatever.
That way you at least get rewarded for using the proper sword/ You've andanced from using crap weapons and are starting to get more skilled with more elaborate weapons.
This also means that if someone wants to afk macro them getting killed is more of a big deal because they can loose a rank 40 weapon or better, you'd also run the risk of killing who you're macroing with.
I nthink if this was implimented then afk macroers would probably just have 10 rank 0 weapons but it would take them forever, where as actual players that either did pvp, pve or jsut sparing would get better skill ups by using the correct ranked weapon.

Making the skill up faster but requiring your spell actually hit something is only a "fuck you" to people who suck at magic and want to level it up while shooting into the air.
This, assuming that the skill gain from hitting is actually balanced nicely. I like the rate that you gain skill NUMERICALLY right now if you just play the game (or at least did when I was playing, I assume it hasn't changed massively), however I don't like the way that it actually affects your performance. That is, the 25/50/75/100 is lame, but the time taken to go 1->2, 2->3 is nice: not too fast, not too slow, if you're actually playing the game. It was for LM and melee weapons anyway; I never got past that (if you haven't noticed I haven't played post-beta).
On-topic: decent steps, but like the alignment changes this isn't nearly enough.

If the alternative is just massive AFK sparring, which it appears to be, I'll settle for a PVE grind, thank you very much.

If there is a PVP solution, its not a problem. Go kill them, take their weapons and screw up their macro. Besides, to do that effectively, you need to dual box.
I have done enough boring MMO PVE in the last 13 years, while I enjoy it on occasion, I do not want to be forced into it to be able to compete in the PVP conquest game.

1. No, you don't need to dual box to macro all your skills by AFK sparring. Get a friend, set macros, spar, done.
2. You can't just kill them. You could slow them down just slightly by killing them, but these guys have so much shit on hand (perhaps because the gain in items from PvE is ridiculously high compared to the gain in skill from PvE?) that even if you kept on corpse camping them, they'd just walk back to their computer, get another weapon, and repeat.
3. I respectfully disagree with your ideas about PvE in general.
4. Perhaps there is a nice compromise. Perhaps the item drop rates from mobs can simply be decreased and/or decay can be increased, so that it's not practical to try to AFK macro spar (the change noted in the OP is one step towards the latter). Instead SOMEONE is going to have to go PvE to enable you to gain skills, but you don't necessarily have to be that someone: you can gain skill while PvPing, but you're definitely going to need to be the winner if you're going to do so, otherwise you're going to quickly run out of gear to gain skill with. Sound fair? AFK macro sparring isn't practical, but PvE isn't needed necessarily for skill gain. Win-win imo.
oh come on, quit it with the righteous bullshit... Just leave it how it is now and turn a blind eye to macroers.
nobody wants to raise skills through pve this isnt warcraft

Then just make the game a god damn MMOFPS, yank out all the PvE, and make it simple. Then watch as it fails due to the fact that there are other MMOFPSes out that are far superior albeit in different settings. Be honest about the game. Don't try to veil it in bullshit.

Nothing these guys do will stop what will always happen. Even now, they insist there are no hackers when I just saw a groundhog pop out of the ground and steal a mount.
solution to afk skilling up? afk skilling up. look at the wall and find a texture outside the world. logout beside that spot. Login outside the world on that rock or tower or whatever because the game somehow wants you to cheat. get your buddy to do it, set up afk parry macro and do it for a month before you quit realizing the game is the drizzling shits.

1) Remove skillups from hitting players
I agree that you need to decrease the need/ability to macro skills, but I don't think removing skillups from hitting players is a good idea when Darkfall is largely based on PvP combat.... I think it would be disheartening if you had to continually kill mobs in order to skillup simply to be better in PvP.

Way to fuck over all the new people.
Glad I got my PA 75+ before they screwed everyone.
Worst thing is, I was at the computer while raising my melee skill, now i just macro.
That isn't what they wanted was it? :|
