Look chat merchants are around they just dont have little buildings they wait at for somone to come inside to buy from them instead they spam in chat channels and it works fine :)

There are no player made merchants right now. The current way to sell thing seems to be advertising in race alliance chat with what you've got and where.

Its pretty hard to get ganked in the city unless you're AFK. However, most people advertising goods still keep them banked until they are sold.

You make an agreement to sell to someone, they come to the bank with you to get it...

then they gank you when you "trade"?

Unless you are almost dead already, they wont be able to kill you quick enough.
