Is RP dead in DF?
Yes and no.
I hear rumours that very few guilds practice some sense of RP.
But, I have never experienced any RP at all... And I've played a lot.

Just look for the right guilds.
The Yew Militia (my own guild, yewmilitia.guildportal.com) is one of the active RP communities. Just ebcause we're fighting with our every breath alongside Lords of Death, aesir and other non-RP clans doesn't mean we don't RP ourselves (although Obs does keep demanding RP in alliance-chat is kept to strictly cybering only). I know a few of the Hyperion guilds are RP clans as well, and there's a couple ork-only guilds RP'ing out there too (I miss their RP in alliance-chat, they were so fun to decipher). In teh end, you really jsut need to get out of the n00b areas, like in any MMO, and find them.

Translation: It's no better than the RP in WoW. In fact it's worse than WoW.
*dons the flame suit for mentioning WoW*
I figure the might Wessex will be leaving Darkfall soon just as he did AoC.

I'm sure that is the same with most every RP clans here. If Aventurine is not going to add RP elements, then for RP players, the game ends up pretty featureless. :(

I disagree. I play RPs ervers in WoW, and Darkfall, sof ar, is much better. But when you don't have dedicated servers, you gotta expect not to get it fulltime. You'd be surprised how many come by for our events, to see us simply line up and the likes. Many guilds do events that enhance RP and support those of their members who enjoy it (like Aesir coming by in full armor as a true army on the march when they arrived on Ice).

All that happens in WoW, and to a greater extent, and more often. (provided you don't join one of the many dead servers that PVPers and raiders transferred to, raped, and left for dead). Like I said, it's no better than WoW by ANY means.
They are equal if ANYTHING. Darkfall is not the revolutionary great home for RP that many proclaim it to be, nowhere near that. If you think it is you are kidding yourself.
There was an event on a server I used to play on just yesterday that turned out 200, count em, 200 RPers.

Untill there's a dedicated RP server with rules, preferably enforced, you're right, DF will never be the grand saviour of RP.
That said, it's still better than wow in a lot of ways. A great many guilds here RP heavily, and it seems to be fairly easy, so far, to get non-RP'ers to join the bandwagon, at least for a time.
With that in mind, I still prefer Darkfall any day of the week. Losing gear, being able to wear anythign you want, do anything you want, does give us RP'ers a much bigger advantage when we play our characters. I can be a abttlemage, and I can turn into a fighter if I should so choose, abandoning all the magic I once held dear. I can kill you for insulting my heritage, and I can burn your house, home, rape your friends and settle on your land.

Games been out for what, a month?
Game is still sorely fluff lacking.
Nothing has really settled properly yet.
Come back in a year and whine about there being no roleplaying. RP communities take time and effort to get established, they dont just spring into existence.

It's a raw game, go in and RP as much as you want but don't try and enforce that on other people.
To me there are a great number of people in DFO that RP but are doing so unintentionally. They are playing a role other than their real life and in a lot of cases that's as much as you can expect from some people.
Yes the chats clunky and there are fluff features missing but a FFA PvP full loot world is the best place to RP in my eyes.
Everything else is just watered down so I am happy ;)
Get in on the ground floor if you can and be a presence.
