Our story begins as we approach a band of adventurers making their way through a forest. They might be making their way back to their town to rest for the night, or their intentions could be more sinister. However what exactly theyre up to is not very important.

The trees are thick and glimpses of a starry sky can be seen through the canopy. The party are walking briskly but seem to move relatively quietly through the bushes; probably to avoid alerting their presence to what lurks within the darkness under the trees. They arent foolish for doing so...

A bird squawks and bursts through the trees to the safety of the sky. The rear of the party turns back looking to a spot amongst the trees. After letting his eyes linger on the spot for a moment he faces forward again catches up wit the rest of his team. We do not... We watch the darkness and are shortly rewarded as two sets of eyes appear. Slowly more of the stalkers can be seen, their wet black noses twitching at the scent. They make their way after their prey.

We avert our attention back to the adventurers as they break free of the confines of the forest and descend down a hill. We can see a village in the valley; fires burning warmly. They pick up their pace for the home stretch. At the edge of the trees two large shapes flex their lean muscles. The manner in which they drop to all fours n descend the slope seems as natural as their two legged prey.

The party seem to be forgetting their long day as they think of examining their loot and getting a well deserved rest. The tension that held them in seilnce through the forest has dissolved. Their town; and safety; are near and the thought of danger has left their minds. As if mocking them for their premature sense of safety a low growl sounds from behind them. the party spins around as one drawing their weapons ready to face the source of the challenge. Yet the grassy hill appears empty and even the woods look deserted. Although they all heard it they question themselves and speculate they mite just be tired.

Suddenly two of the adventurers chests are ripped open and through the holes that remain flashes of fur and claw are seen through the spatters of blood. Before the lifeless bodies hit the ground the attackers vanish. The rest of the party lose all self control and bolt for the town, throwing down anything that might slow them down. The runner in the lead sees a flash of curved steel before his head is severed. His teammate behind him watches in horror as the blade never slows down but plunges straight through his heart. He never feels the second blade enter his back. The second attacker looks across at the last of the party running for the town knowing he could slay him well before he reaches safety. The leader of the attacking party removes his blade and signals that its time to go. The two make their way back to the woods and dissolve into the darkness...

I was mixed when I read it, though I like it now.
On one hand, the excessive violence sort of came out of nowhere and totally threw me off. On the other hand, that sort of violent switch may be exactly what you were going for- a sharp twist into the violence that is this game...and I liked that.

Keep it up.
