Okay, so I am 49.0 Greater magic and will be if the servers get up ever. Getting Fire Magic today. I just want to know, how bad is the grind compared to Greater Magic? Should I break my skills button not to look so it doesn't depress me?
and even if it is 10x worse.. is it at least somewhat useful in comat? Because that will make it better for me somewhat.

I hear roughly 3500-4k reagants to get from 0-25.
I am at 22, and that has proven pretty accurate so far.

grind: its slower than GM. the first couple of points should go fairly easy, but later on you are probably looking at ~1000 reagents for 1 skillpoint.
in terms of combat viablity: youll stary off hitting for 20+ front, 30+ back with noob staff - but you can prolly only cast 7 firebolts before you run oom. so, no - dont expect to rock in pvp all of a sudden.

I find Fire Magic only useful if they turn their back to me. 24 mana and 6 stam doesn't justify 20-25 damage in the front, seeing as how I can easily do much more with a polearm and mana-2-stam. It's good in the back however because you can generally get 2-3 off before they realize that you just demolished them for 100 damage in 4 seconds.

Yeah, I really wish they would boost magic a little bit to compare with bow, I got my fire magic and am starting to raise it.
I am going to take just a little few day break from raising it to up my bow skill, and pole-arm. Bow is much better unfortunately for now.

Leveling elemental skills are twice as slow, and each spell takes 2x reagents instead of just a single one. So it will take 4x more reagents (roughly) to level up.
