I looted my first mount off a player last night (my project for the night was get a mount from The Clan, a guild we are at war with).

I found out where they were bindstoned (they don't have a city so it was a starter town) and began my 8 hour day of griefing them. Many naked fights occurred, anytime I was in armor it was armor I picked up off their corpses. I griefed them at the newbie goblin spawns. I found them at the harder Ork spawns. I griefed their crafters, including killing their supreme general and netting myself a nice chunk of Ore and Resin. This in turn brought their whole guild to town to chase me around for an hour or so.

After a few hours I logged off and while at work, thinking about darkfall (It's been a LONG time since I sat offline thinking about the game I play) I came up with a plan to truly grief them ... I wanted another mount for my collection. My luck in this game sucks with herbing, I did not get my first steedgrass until 65.6 freaking herbing skill!!!!!!! Killing players for their mounts has been the only way I have gotten mounts

When I got home from work I immediately began the griefing again. By now I knew their hunting spots, their habits, whom grouped with whom. I sat at the bank (I have a little hiding spot where I can see the bank and they can't see me even if they look right up in my direction) for hours watching them come and go, until I saw their heavily geared supreme general show up. I immediately started the griefing process and am getting good enough with my melee fighting I was able to get him to 30% or so even tho he was fully geared and I was nekkid. He was stupid and ganked me of course when I died making my rush from the bindstone back to the bank done before his ass was even sitting down to rest.

As I came back up from the bindstone his character was just starting to sit down and I ran up behind him and started my ASSAULT! He was dead before his character could stand back up! I ganked, I opened the corpse, and my heart stopped! Before my eyes, sticking out from under a sea of banded/scaled/plate armor was what I thought was the corner off a figurine. My heart was beating, my hands were shaking and then WHAM I started seeing loot dissapearing from the corpse (the crowd at the bank who had watched me kick his ass was reaping my rewards!!!!). Looting that horse was the hardest thing I have ever had to do. It was like I had parkinson's disease. I was all over the place my hands were shaking so bad. I could HEAR my heart it was beating so fast, and somehow in all that chaos, with the shakiest of shaky hands, I managed to secure the day's goal and got my mount!

Even with all the bugs,

Even with all the exploits,

Even with all the zerging,

It has been over 10 years (the UO days) since a game has made me feel that way.

All the waiting in the queu,
All the f5 smashing,

these last few weeks, and especially that moment last night, have made it ALL worth it

hehe good story, i also have had some similar rushes in DF but i'm still a bit noobie :)

the worst case of the "computer game shakes" that i had, was when i was running for my life in PVP with $250 worth of gear on UO, and the day i finnaly died using that gear :P

My hands shook like hell the first time someone attacked me aswell, it gets better..sorta..

Hard to loot when you are about to pass out isn't it :p

I shook so hard when i stole a mount from a raiding party while they were archery'ing someone in the water...they weren't watching there mounts well >.>

Kill count: 7
Rewards: Scale pce, 3 Banded pces, 2 mounts. Rank 80, 40 staff. Rank 30 bow. About 400 gold. Some regants and ore.

What strikes me as most interesting is the negative response to this story. Bink obviously took great effort to plan out a mission and do everything possible to accomplish that mission- a sort of player generated PvP quest. Yet many of you seem to think it is some sort of deviant behavior worth of ridicule.

This is a PvP-centric game! There is a mechanism for clan warfare to avoid the mechanism of noob guard towers in starter towns. The targeted clan had in fact declared the war so why should they not be responsible for the ramifications? And it is a full loot game. Why should a player strutting around at the bank in full metal armor not be responsible for his personal decisions?

I agree, Darkfall is the first game in a long time that actually got me excited with PvP, however dull people say it may be.

It's worth the wait, but I'm just really frustrated at the moment. I have no opportunity of actually buying the game, so it's that that's giving me trouble.

If you farm ore to make armor and weapons all day, so one loss really isn't that important, then you'd be correct.

But if you're a casual player who gets half of his armor from spawn/Player drops, it's exhilarating to hunt somebody down and kill them.

100% of my armor and weapons is from spawn/player drops. Like I said it's fun.. very fun. Just not "hardcore" I love this game and it's quite exhilarating to hunt down people. Not disagreeing there, just saying it's not what I would call hardcore.

Yes, but killing your foes to get the money makes the victory all that much sweeter.

TL;DR: There is no hardcore without making the game reliant on gear.

I hate that word. "Hardcore". This isn't a Boston mosh pit, there really isn't any "hardcore". If by hardcore, you mean griefing, annoying, hard to excel in, or just impossible to beat players who have been playing longer and consider themselves above the rest of the "noob scum", then no, Darkfall is not hard core. It gives everybody a good chance at winning a fight, and since armor and weapons aren't terrifically hard to obtain (for some), that means that the reward for killing people who do have armor and weapons isn't all that spectacular. If I sound bitter, my apologies, but I'm really tired of this word being thrown around. There is no "Hardcore" in the gaming world at the moment. Imo, Runescape is one of the only "hardcore" games left out there, that's if you're counting the amount of work it takes to obtain good things. The PvP is drawling and boring as boring gets, but nevertheless, the reward for killing people is great, if they're wearing good armor. Yet that's not the purpose of Darkfall. Darkfall's purpose is to negate the effects of gear, and therefore making the lower-quality armor and weapon drops not what some would call "hardcore".

I didn't kill the guy to get the mount because I "needed a mount" (btw, since I started this thread im +4 more mounts from CLAN). I did it because that's how I like to play. Noob melee fragging or zerging is not always my cup o' tea. Sometimes I like a lil tact and yes a little deviousness in my game playing. It's no different than being a thief in UO, seeing a guy equip a supreme accurate vanq katana, and stalking him for hours waiting for him to make the mistake of unequiping it.

This game caters to all play styles. When i want guild warfare (90% of the time this is what i do) I'm with my guild fighting at Hamlets/Cities. Sometimes I'm out fullfilling my need to solo pk and grief noobies. And SOMETIMES I want a battle of attrition (my mount getting plan for example). That is whats great about darkfall. Anyday I can log in, make a gameplan, and go exectute it. And everyday it does NOT have to be the same thing.

To all the flamers. My guess is Darkfall Online is not for you, mayhaps you should GB2FF!

Killing players for their mounts has been the only way I have gotten mounts

When I got home from work I immediately began the griefing again. By now I knew their hunting spots, their habits, whom grouped with whom. Hey Bink, Darkbane here. I agree with ya. Havent had this rush since pre trammel UO.

Just last night I was half afk running to a spot, naked, and 3 alfar, armed to the teeth, charge me from across a river. One charged early, and that mistake proved fatal ^^. By the end of it, There was 1 down, and One with half health, while the other was smart and ranged. Although I died, I definitely hurt their confidence.

After I respawned, I noticed I could hear my heart beating. Best MMO out there. Good to see youre enjoying it too.

Cheers Rob.

_Fawkes;3143269']Yes, but killing your foes to get the money makes the victory all that much sweeter.

I guess what I mean by hardcore is a deep risk vs reward system. Like spending weeks to save up for a ship and mod it out in eve then risk losing it in a fight.

In this game gear is so worth so little that dying and getting looted even if your geared hardly hurts.

No hardcore games left? Um try Eve.. thats truly hardcore

Nice storie, its good to hear tales like this and knowing other players are enjoying themself.
Why play a game if you dont get that rush, or a big grin on your face. Or paranoid feeling "did you hear those footstep"

If a game before boring and you dont get a kick out of it, then its really time to quit and do something else.

Lol I always like seeing people who are enjoying the game as much as I am. I haven't felt like this for a game since... well actually I've never felt like this for a game and Im 23.

But 1 grass for 65 herbing? Damn thats cruel. I definitely had more than 10 by the time I reached the 60s.

i looted my first mount off a player last night (my project for the night was get a mount from the clan, a guild we are at war with).

All the waiting in the queu,
all the f5 smashing,

these last few weeks, and especially that moment last night, have made it all worth it

thank you av

gratz!!!

good story man! but naked fighting needs to be tweaked, there is just no reason to get into armour (its more convenient deing 3 times in a row naked than dieing once with armour)

Grats. We have a few cockroaches like yourself infesting our Clan city. 2 or 3 of them hide and wait all day, everyday. They have effectively eliminated any idea of afk macroing. It's been profitable for them as well.

It's kept us on our toes, which is a good thing. This game plays so differently from person to person.
