Did anyone do tests that actually hitting yourself, player, mob raises magic skill faster than shooting in air? If it does, does it matter who you hit? Can you hit yourself? Just how much faster does it raise? Thanks.

I am not 100% on the hitting yourself or mobs thing, but I do not believe it helps at all.
But I can say with 100% certainty Different spells will level the main skill at different rates.
case I tested it with was unburden and heal other. basically Heal other required 33% more mandrake than unburden did to level a skill up .1
here is the catch though, I have not tested with data the hitting yourself to level magic better, so If that does matter then heal other might work better if you are actually hitting someone and it might even out.

As far as I can tell casting on yourself or on mobs doesn't increase the rate at which your magic skill increases. However, casting on yourself with malicious spells (damage, curses, debuffs, etc.) will raise your defenses over time to those. These would include Reflex, Rigor, Fortitude, etc. As for casting on mobs the only benefits it provides I find is 1) you get loot/reagents and 2) you learn the mechanics of your spells better and gain practice with leading targets.

Well I have not tested it since beta and IN beta hitting yourself was near double the effective gains. That and the extra gains from being hit in the 1st place is nice.
Next thng I noticed is when I get the message that I gained in archery it seems to ALWAYS be on a miss. That might just be the luck of the draw(no pun intended) but it is weird.
