I don't see how people poorly and incorrectly naming things has anything to do with getting out of highschool.

The Canary Islands are off the west coast of Africa, nowhere near the Pacific.

1. 116 years
2. Panama? (yeah, I know it's probably wrong...)
3. Sheep
4. I have no fucking clue.
5. See previous
6. See previous
7. Albert
8. Purple?
9. Kiwi, and originally China, but now Italy grows more.
10. Orange and white.
And now lets see how I did... By your standards I got three (or four depending on whether you count ten) right, but I happen to know for a fact you're wrong about number 9 (I just checked to confirm), and a quick check reveals me to be correct about 10 as well.

I know the answer to only one of those immediately. And that is cat gut (comes from sheep primarily). I knew that the Hundred Years' War lasted ~120 years though.

Yeah. I got it from my wife, who got it at a forum she posts at. :D
The first one I got right was #4. Those silly russians are always late. (oddly enough I knew the answer from reading fiction books)

But you are borderline omniscient....
How the fuck is this possible?

I'm "borderline omniscient" because I learn stuff about things that interest me and because a lot of things interest me at least to a small extent. Panama hats, Russian holidays, camel's hair brushes, geographic naming by virtue of animals, first names of kings, purple finches, Chinese gooseberries, and airplane black boxes are not a subset of the set of things that interest me.
I'm also not as smart as you're making me out to be. Just as an example, I know no quantum physics, minus the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle. I just know such a vast swath of random bits of trivia (and also enjoy mentioning said snippets of trivia) that within the context of an Internet forum I seem fucking brilliant. I'll say that without hesitation.

I barely passed. However, it illustrates perfectly why today's schools are so screwed up. They waste 10 years of a kid's life filling his brain with useless data, and then throw him out on his ass to live in the real world, in which 99.87% of all he was taught is utterly useless. So, a hundred year war lasted 116 years? How useful is this information? I haven't seen any use for it yet in 30 years.
