Are magic and orcs even viable?

Let me start by saying that yes I did use the search function and sorry if this isn't the correct place to ask this(Please move if not). This question is focused towards people who have experience playing an Orc that uses/used magic.

I am thinking of making a melee orc(Once I get the game) that uses magic as a range capability(As most people from what I understand use archery or magic along with thier melee). Are Orcs able to use magic decently at least or is it foolish to even try? Thank you.

they are just as vialble as any of the other races, stats can be increased.
