How can you go wrong with a "large blunt"

Well, club is very similar to the axe, which is to say slower than sword, more damage per hit. However, Greatclub has the benefit of doing bludgeoning damage, against which heavy armors protect less. For example, for banded mail, you are looking at about 2.6 protection against piercing/slashing, but only 2.1 against bludgeoning.

I might have to give the hammer a try.

I am using Greeatclubs and i like them more and more every day.
I have no numbers to base my opinion on , but it feels like the damage is scaling well with my greatclub skill.
May also be the fact that i face more and more plate users.

In a one on one aganst Pole arm, I delt out more damage per hit but Pole arm wielder delt out triple as many hits as I did. I think the extra reach was the main reason.

What's the difference between plate bludgeoning resistance and slashing resistance ? 1 point ? That's how much more damage you do per swing with a hammer instead of a sword or axe.

So you've proven that the formula for damage resistance is simply (damage - resistance) ? You have a link to some of your testing?

I used Greathammer for a good while, the reach is a big disadvantige. Then tested polearm and got bored with it, now I am at sword. All in all the best meele weapon, magic, and ranged weapon with the highest dmg is simply the bow. Bow wins it all.

I ran little test with armor on and off and it looks like your resistance points are strongly related to damage you receive.
In a studded armor set I have ave. 5 points of resistance in that set.
From the same person with the same weapon I received on an average 5 points of damage less then naked.

Well,Im not going to say I don't use polearm just for the sake of being different than everyone else. To me,polearms kick ass. But,you should just find a weapon that works well for your play style.

same, and i knew from beta that plate offers less resistance to blunt than slashing and piercing so i was planning ahead. got greatclubs to 36 and then started looking at polearms again. let's face it, polearms are better against everyone, maybe even people in plate for the reasons i'll discuss. 1. they do more damage than the hammer 2. they have a longer range than the hammer 3. they are faster than the hammer 4. they have a slight inherent knockback. 5. as said above, the difference in resistance on armors isn't even felt until you get to banded or so, and that is only .5, i wonder if .5 is enough to make up for the hammers deficiencies when compared to polearms. greatclubs may be better in the future (it looks like far in the future) but for now it seems that polearms are just to op
