You can dodge mobs arrow (don't know if intentionally or not, but sometimes you see a mob arrow flying by not hitting you), but is it possible to dodge mob melee hits? So far it seems that every swing mob does reaches the target - am i right? Or running around/crouching/jumping may dodge the hits?

that is not true...you can dodge melee attacks from mobs, i do it quite a bit and am getting better at it.....actually i find much harder to avoid arrows...so it seems that it is just a matter or practice :-D

this.

I can be done, but the stamina loss is usually not worth it, at least with my methods :)

This was a problem I had too, and I felt it really dumbed down solo PvE, since all I could do was stand there and swing a lot. Now, if blocking were a viable option then it wouldn't matter as much, but...

If you have a 2h weapon with long range (sword or polearm) the best tactics against some melee mobs is simply just backing away from them. They try to attack you once you get in range but because you are backing away you can sometimes avoid their hits. Because you have longer range than most mobs your weapon will still hit them.

well blockin IS actually a viable option...it just require practice and a lil skilling up before being really good (cause you'll use a lot less stamina)...for ex, yesterday i was really low on life and still had a goblin on me....well i managed to do the "perfect" fight and parried all its attacks while managing to retaliate in between and i killed it without losing nearly a single hp....granted, in order to parry most attacks i still need to "miss" out some attacking myself due to being able to get the right timing with the mob, but it is doable and it is really nice when you get how to do it :)

Played with Mahirim, Alfar and Mirdain I can say this:
when fighting goblins (basic mob) and hitting them you can, with some fundamental player skill...
- easily dodge with Alfar,
- dodge with Mirdain,
- and you will probably never be able to dodge as a Mahirim, because their hitbox is too large for that.

I call bullshit. You can't ever block and retaliate against someone with a one handed weapon. There simply isn't enough time. It would be great if things did work like this, but they don't.

Blocking is viable against mobs, but we only get the damage mitigation benefit. It seems to me that mobs don't run out of stamina like PvP opponents can.

Mob melee attacks can be dodged, if you are very very careful on your spacing. IE I am capable of killing certain mobs with a polearm, and them never successfully hitting me back.

Certain mobs turn too slowly. So you can circle around them the entire time hitting them with them not being able to hit.

ie. Manscorpions

When they run away follow, as soon as they start to turn, run around the opposite direction.

I was killing them all day in beta like this. And for a few days after release.

I am sure it works on other mobs with large bodies as well.

Agreed. Backing up works best. Circling works too but it's harder to execute properly. Race may matter though. As an Alfar I can do it but I can imagine a bigger hitbox may make it tougher.

Very doable, with little practice.

The only thing is, you need a good lengthy weapon. Meet Mr. Overpowered Polearm, your new practice weapon!

The idea, is to use a side to side swing, attack, and as your swinging be backing up, as your swing is about half way done through it's motion, around when you will see blood spatter, switch from backing up to side strafing away.

Side strafing moves faster than backing up, and will give you the extra room you need to avoid a melee hit.

This is probably impossible with ANY 1 hand weapon, or knives. I was pulling this off at a very successful rate. No sprint is required.

it is obvious that using a 1h you cant retaliate in between swings against an other 1hander....but i still have to find someone who uses a 1h and dont use a shield :)
I mean, if you are fightin a 1hander you are on the same field, so it is a matter of who hits most (with maybe a parried attack here and there)....shield become useful against 2handers since they swing slower and thus, if you are really good, you can parry and retaliate...granted it will not work 100% of the time, but that is how it is supposed to be otherwise 1h and shield would be too strong
