Getting bored of being a polearm failing retard, so I'm turning back to magic / archery

I have my Greater Magic skill at 8 at the moment. I'm just wondering what the best / fastest way to get to 50 is?

Should I just farm loads of bones and spam Rend to 50? or what?

and does anyone have a rough idea how many reagents I need to get 50?

Thanks

Rend eats less reagents.

Heal Other is somewhat useful, as you can spam it very quickly 5-6 times and actually turn someone almost dead into half-alive, and works on mounts, which is a plus.

Frailty doesn't have any effect, but uses Sulfur, if you have tons of that, might as well use it on something.

I leveled on a mix of all three.

most people use rend to 25 ( builds up rigor and constitution if aimed at ground so it hits you) then Heal other uses mandrake I think

you will need a couple of thousand of each
I am only at 24.7 GM and have lost count of how much bone I've used most of which has been supplied by clan mates 100 at a time

Yeah, it takes thousands of reagents. By my count, 25-50, you're looking at around 4,000 reagents for that. And it gets significantly worse when you hit elemental, since every spell needs 2 reagents, and levels even slower.

Hmm.

Ok, can I just ask one question then

Is it worth it?

I mean, right now I have 50 Archery skill, and my bow hits do like 20 damage a hit and 25-30 from behind. Is there any point me leveling magic? I mean, it seems to do the same damage but costs a hell of alot in reagents

Whereas archery costs 1 reagent (an arrow) and seems to do the same damage as magic

Plus it only takes me an hour to make 1000 arrows

Is it worth it at all or what?

At the moment, magic isn't worth it. It involves far more effort, exponentially more than leveling weapon skills or archery and is only barely equal in terms of effect.

It's really sad, but it's true. A hardcore archer for example will max out archery and be a deadly machine. Spending the same time, someone could max out lesser magic and be...what? A mediocre mage at best.

Even worse is the fact that this example never happens. People go on to plow through greater magic, which in turn leads to elemental magic, which might, when maxed, be capable of competing with archery. Along the way you literally just trash dozens of hours of grind.

Greater magic should be removed from the game and spells should cost fewer reagents. But that's another dead horse.

Safe to say, it's probably not worth it to invest in magic at the moment. Play the smart choice and grind that melee weapon and archery up.
