I can't figure out why someone would want to use a 2H sword over Polearms. Polearms do more damage, have better range, use just a little more stamina and is a tad slower than 2H Swords. When jousting in PvP, speed doesn't matter much as you're not swinging all the time, and stamina really isn't an issue with consumables.

2h swords looks really cool:P that´s probably why.
Last time I did a detailed check the reach difference between 2h swords and polearms was, if at all extant, so small as to be virtually irrelevant...but that was back in beta so maybe it got changed at some point.
Attack speed and stam usage still have their place in PvP; 2h swords generally feel superior for killing mounts, for example. Faster attack speed is also useful when you are in high-lag situations where trying to do carefully-timed attacks is problematic. There's more crafting selection for 2h swords. And as most of us can't be assed to have one weapon type for PvP and another type for PvE, the 2h swords are a hell of a lot better for PvE. The minor knockback effect of polearms can be a serious pain in the ass for a lot of stuff.

Here we go again...
polearms deal more damage per hit, have a small knockback and longer range (barely) but are not as fast and consume more stamina per use than greatswords. Greatswords are better when chasing someone down, because they don't get knocked forward a bit. Then again... so are bows.
Because the noobie 2h sword and the rank 20 nails-on-a-woodstick look badass. Shearsword FTW.
