View Full Version : Info on Armored Casting and Encumbrance

So I think I stumbed upon the way the game processes armored spell casting and encumbrance. If this is already known by the general public pardon my post and let it die, if not then here ya go!
TL;DR version: (Armored Casting x 2) / 10 = Encumbrance deduction
So lets say you have 20 armored casting. Times 2 = 40. Divided by 10 = 4.
Lets say you are wearing armor with an encubrance of 20. You now have -4 encumbrance from armored casting so your actual encumbrance (slower cast speed and less dmg) is 16.
The reason I see this info good for casters now is you can now plan on what end game armor you will be able to wear.
At 100 you would have 20 encumbrance deduction, allowing you to wear a decent amount of armor without ANY penalty. I do not know stats on anything but mob dropped banded, which is around 58 or so with a full set on. But I am pretty sure full scale is less.
Also certain pieces are high encumbrance, such as Chest and Pants. Most metalic helmets are WAY higher than cloth helmets as well. Meaning you could piecemeal your gear to around 10 or 15 encumbrance and still possibly get 4-5 resistances without casting penalty.
Hope this info helps you guys and gl out there!!!

Why don't you just divide by 5?
oh ya i just realized why my brain did that.
ex.
12.3 armored casting
divide by 5 is a hard for me stupid brain lol
so i times 2 for 24.6 (ya i know .. hard for me to divide but i can multiply fine)
and then move the decimal place so i get 2.46 rounded to 2.5
now i see that i can just round to the nearest .5 up or down and then divide by 5 easily ... ROFL im a supertard

Anyone know how this would ultimately affect using Bone Armor? I was planning to have that as my final armor type for my caster since i figured being under Tailoring it would have a lessor impact (also no metal i believe) to casting.
But if robes make that much a difference i may need to consider those and go Earth magic for the Stoneskin buff spell.

Full suit of bone armor (minus gloves and boots obviously) is about 21 encumberance.
So a full suit of bone + leather gloves and boots, with 100 armored casting would be very very low single digits, around 3 encumberance or so.

dont forget you can also wear heavier armor just neglect wearing metal helm, metal chest, metal legs and sub out cloth or even nude .. still be around 3-4 resistances

Helmet and legs are the most valuable pieces as far as encumberance amount vs resists.
Helmet pieces have the same encumberance value as similar arm/shoulder/waist/glove/boot/etc. But 2x higher resists.
Legs have the lowest encumberance value and resists the same as arm/shoulder/waist/glove/boot/etc.

There's a Chuck Norris joke in here somewhere...
To be honest, I was expecting something useful, like whether you gain Armored Casting faster in plate than naked. O.P.'s great revelation came to me right around the first time I looked at my encumbrance values... silly me, I didn't think to share my genius deduction with the forums.

But that wasn't a puzzle. Congratulations, you solved the picture on the box.
Seriously, I know I was a little flamey with this one, I'm just grumpy because (A) I'm at work and can't play Darkfall, and (B) I really was hoping for solid info on whether wearing heavy armor affects your skill-up rate. :(
