Melee -weapons

What weapons do you people use when out of mana or when someone engages in close combat? I'm currently using 2h sword but was thinking if 1h + shield be any viable

I've been using 2 handed Axes.

Usually, when I'm out of mana, I just have to finish the mob or assist one of my tank mate in PvP, so a big damage weapon is good IMO.

I beleive that any 1 handed weapon + shield is the most beneficial because of the temporary gain of protection and encumbrance, because the encumbrance won't give you a disadvantage when casting.
