I was just wondering about the differences in combat when you fight in a group vs. as a lone person. The trailors show armies fighting one amother, and I was wondeing: how would fighting in a group differ from fighting alone. (other than the obvious increas in numbers.)
Would your group have a bigger or smaller chance of surving if it was huge? I've read in the reviews that you can kill allies if you don't swing your weapon in the right direction. Just speculating. feel free to respond.

Allways a group have more chances to stay alive. I suppose you dont play DF yet, and this is the reason you ask it. Well, right now there is many 4/7 people gank squads around, and they are a big problem to solo players, even in small groups like i am (i usually play with 2 mates so we are 3).
About hitting your teammates you have just to press "t" to change your swing direction from side-side to up-down. So you dont hit your mates. It is not a problem at all. The problem is to be alone with that many abbusers out there! :D

I play just me and a friend, and we do pretty good vs groups. just the other day we rolled over a group of 8 or so naked VVV's who zerged us after we left their town.
vs better geared opponents we can do good vs 3-4 and come out on top, but any fights we get into with that many people and are that well geared (banded-scale mixup) they usually call on their guild to zerg us.
its all good though because between me and my friend alone we have all the proffesions excepting enchanting and jewelcrafting, and their all pretty highly skilled. We've been ahead of the armor curve the entire time, ie when people where using chain, we had banded, when others started using banded, we had scale, etc etc.

i dont think the OP was asking if you could tell a story about how great you and your friends are

well, i guess the OP asked because he want to know if he got chances with small groups/solo gaming.
So the answer was fitting...

There are different combat styles you can utilize depending how fast you want to finish the combat, on the enemy and ally count and weapons of course.
The more you play the more deep it gets - you see different things in action, make your analyses and set up a style.
The cool think is this actually ads a variety to the game, that someone that played for a few days may not be able to see, understand and utilize.
