As of now, there is not really a reason to "skill up" taming. Sure, your fail percentage goes down, but there should be benefits to raising your taming skill. Different types of mounts to create.

How about, add new types of mounts that you get at 50 skill.

There would be a faster mount. It has less health, but runs faster.

Then there would be a battle mount. Runs slower, but can take more damage.

Different types of players would have different mounts. In large scale PvP, you'd see more battle mounts.

In smaller scale PvP, you could see both Battle Mounts, or regular mounts.

Gatherers could bring fast mounts with them to quickly escape from gankers.

I like this idea, different breeds of mounts. Put it up in the suggestion forum?

Yeah something like this:

25 - A little bit faster

50 - more health

75 - A little bit faster

100 - Armoured (after you craft this it goes down to lvl 99 again to make it rare)

Would be very nice to have a fast drake for scouting and tactical retreats(aka running the hell away).

No. It shouldn't be an increase to the basic type of mount, it should be multiple new types of mounts IMO.

IE:
Horse - Steedgrass - 1.0 Skill - Basic Mount
Lean Horse - Steedgrass + 50g - 25 Skill - Higher speed, lower HP
Heavy Horse - 2x Steedgrass - 50 skill - Lower speed, higher HP
Armored Horse - Steedgrass + 250g - 75 skill - Higher HP, regular Speed
Trained Horse - 2x Steedgrass + 250g - 100 skill - Higher speed, regular HP

i like this idea.

I also think blacksmiths (or maybe tamers) should be able to make mount armor aswell..or maybe mount bags, that mounts carry for extra cargo, but drop if they die and become lootable.

Ya, definitely should require more mats to tame better mounts. I would really like to see some with various forms of armor running around.

Or maybe the armor smiths could create armor specifically for mounts, that might be interesting...

I vote for this! What a great idea

this is a pretty terrible idea.

People are reckless with their mounts. if you make them stronger or faster, any noob will be able to escape from even the most skilled archer.

I know for fact past 25 taming your mount can take up to 2 extra mounted hits from another player worth in HP... not cool buffs like mentioned before but they are there slightly...

training mounts would be more awesome imo, but then the core code would have to be changed so mounts are less generic :P

idea would be that if you fight with mount it becomes more sturdy & does more damage
if you run it alot it gets faster
the more you jump with it the higher it can jump, etc..

same idea as player skills..

gief naow.. guess this thread in general should go under suggestions board :P

I like all ideas here, taming definately needs love, it should be a worthy craft tree with better mounts as your taming skill levels up (as it is with all other craft trees)

I also wonder if its a bug or intended when you dont loose steedgrass if taming fails. If steedgrass would be lost, the higher taming chance when leveling up would actually mean something.

I personally think that Mounts as they are, are fine. Their HP do seem to raise a little with Taming skill.

For variation I think the easiest thing to balance would be barding.

Light Barding - Leather - crafted by Tailors - Light resistance increase and light speed decrease.

Medium Barding - Chain - crafted by Armorsmiths - medium resistance increase and medium speed decrease.

Heavy Barding - Plate - crafted by Armorsmiths - high resistance increase and high speed decrease.

With a system like this you will still have the risk/reward as if you buff your mount it will live longer but it will slow you and of course cost you monies if you die.

Horses as fast enough as is and I would vote to not increase their speed in anyway.

If you want to make something racial have Weaponsmith make a racial damage add on. something like Drakes - Spiked tail or Horse - Metal horns

Someone was telling me that you were given more mount options with higher skill but no idea for sure.

well if they actually give us mounted archery it would save the fucking long ass chases.... would get more people in the game and more people would like it, atm u have to piss around either waiting for them to get out of stam, cut them off, hope they run into sommat or dismount and fire ur bow at them and let ur guildies grab ur mount, the thing is its so shit compared to anything else, you'd atleast expect to be able to use a bow on a horse or even mana missile... just sommat otherthan the melee which is useless in a chase -.-

How does taming work? Can dogs only make the pigs, alfar drakes etc? Or do you get access to the different mounts as you skill up? Or if you are in their lands when you summon one etc?

Some really cool ideas in here... I just wish Adventurine would give us an idea of what direction they're gonna take the game.

I also wish we could get past this stage of "Improving server capacity and stability" and on to more development and sweetening up the game.
