It seems like everybody who goes elemental goes fire. Was wondering if anybody is a water mage and how the damage compares to fire. Also are the snares and such in water magic effective?

With 2 elemental at 100 and Arcane or Necro at 100 and SC or WC at 100, damn that would be just shy of 1mil reagents, that 1,000,000.

Water only slows attack speed, not movement speed. Also Water does do the most stam damage out of the elemental trees. But then fire does a bit more damage versus Structures/Siege Weapons/Ships.

Everyone goes for fire cause propably sulfur is 10x easier to get than nacre :)
Havent met any mob that drop nacre so far (except shaman type mobs, who drop only 1 nacre and much more other regs).

From what I've heard fire and water do exactly the same damage, just fire does more to wooden things and water drains more stamina.

Wrong, its a GM confirmed bug. I forgot the link but there was an ingame screenshot of a GM convo.

Still, maxing more then one elemental tree will take a godawefull long time, and tons of reagents. better sticking to 1. (ps earth looks like the weakest elemental.)

There was a screenie around a while back that showed a convo between someone asking if they had to choose between elementals and the GM said it was a bug and that it was supposed to be fixed at a later time. I think that the GM misunderstood or something because it's quite well known that you have to choose between conflicting elements.

We'll see.

Yeah, I wasn't sayin' so much that it was a miscommunication as much as it was a GM that didn't know that. It's been said for some time that elemental opposites could not be learned. I couldn't see how it was a mistake to not allow elemental opposites...I mean that couldn't be a program glitch or something, that would have to be programmed in on purpose.

So I dunno what the GM was talkin' about. If someone else talks to a GM about it, then let's see if we can get more info about it outa them, aye? Unfortunately, I'm not in game yet, but I'm hopin' this week will be my lucky week.

What about air magic? I was thinking of going air for some of the buffs but also for the lightning dmg. Is it any good?

I know it sound stupid but when it say "cast to target " and I'm talkeing about buffes it mens you can cast to a target too or just to a target and its inposibe to buff yoursef? Rapid Shot for example.
And one more question to an expert mage:
Rapid Shot + Haste = Impetus (on sef) ?

Also Water does do the most stam damage out of the elemental trees.

What, even considering stamina leech in earth?

I think anyone planning on being a caster should take 2 element schools, or go the aracane or necro route and add 1 element for flavor. Just decide wat you want your strengths to be and adjust. Earth is prob best for hybridish characters with stoneskin, stam leech, str buff etc. Fire seems like it'll have most pure dmg spells and aoes, and really good on a archer/mage char with the archery buffs. Air for a more pure caster with the pushbacks and arrow resist buffs. Water seems a solid choice for a more caster type mage as well. Necro and arcane would be good on any char I think, arcane caster could be used for a paladin type char or to own other mages as a pure caster with spell shields and haste. Necro/witchcraft also seems to be great on any kind of char, debuffs on a fighter with a life drain and mana drain, gg. Perosnally I am going withcraft/necro/earth char with sword n board n medium armor (use unburden n as armor casting lvl can prob roll with banded with little encumberance). Vs fighters just exhaust, stam leech, you win the fight of attrition. Vs casters you will have a mana drain, spell failure debuf. and life drain could possibly be the best self heal when you have someone to hit with it. Just decide what your playstyle is and pick schools accordingly.

Actually you are the one who doesn't know what you're talking about. I have Air/Fire/Earth/Water all trained. All 4 are skilling up. It is confirmed.

Read the tooltips in game, read the website. It wasn't until the last patch that the idea was dropped and you could buy all of the spell trees.

Quick thing on the Fire/Water thing.
Water does higher damage but has very little aoe compared to Fire
Fire does very good damage and has a pretty nice AOE.

Inless you go against someone in robes, then fire seems to do more.

Will continue to test onward, with the aid of my allies so that you all can learn a bit more.

Also Earth has the lowest damage, most of its spells are DOTs, but it is good for the defensive aspect of it.

Air is good against plate users and once ranked up enough will do more damage to someone in Infernal, than fire or water. plus Air has the Largest AOE of all the four elemental schools.

Elfshades on Yssam drop it....with 150 or 350g, 12 nacre or so, and other mats. They also drop leenspar and niethal keys and gems.
