Hello everyone! Note: sorry for my bad english. ;)

I really need some advices. I'am having hard times switching weapons while pvp'ing.

How you guys manage to run, switch weapon and target the enemy at the same time? I'am loosing pretty much all my 1v1 fights. When changing weapons I have to leave the W key (forward) and the shift key (run) to switch weapons (key 1 to 4). Also I have to choose whats spell to cast after that I have equiped my staff. I can't keep up.. My opponents switch thier weapons really fast, change spells really fast while targeting me and running.

I really need some advices from hardcore pvper: how you guys manage do to this easilly? How are you key bindings? Help me :bang:

My opponents switch thier weapons really fast, while targeting me and running.

a trick i use is that when im going to switch weapons i have autorun set to ctrl + w so i tap that then i have my switch hotkeys set to ctrl + # instead of shift so i can continue holding shift while i hit numbers. This way i can sprint away and put on my bow or staff easily

And you probably have an old keyboard. The newer one support more key pressing at the same time then the older bigger keyboards. If you press to many Keys at the same time you may hear "beep".

I think one of the big things is just practice. Start on mobs keep working at it till you have your switch speed where you want it. I havent been in too much pvp yet but having your weapons on the hot bar is the first thing and just knowing which button to hit. Practice in pve will be less stressful than the practice in pvp. Maybe also look at kiting mobs to practice. Pull will MM then switch to sword when its close then run away and as you are running switch to MM again fire one off and switch back to sword. Knowing which weapon to fight with at the right time is again practice.

"X" is gank. Don't have to add it to the action panel.

2 rules have served me well through every situation i've met so far.

1. Don't stand in the fire
2. Don't die

Autohotkey is your friend.

Can you get banned for using Autohotkey? They say any 3rd party program can/will get you banned. I'am trying to do it in a legitimate way.

Macro is your friend.

Macro each and every weapon to a key and bind a hotbar to it.

Example:

I've got 1h+sword on hotbar 1 and 2, bow on hotbar 3, staff on hotbar 4 and polearm on hotbar 5.

Then I bind 4 buttons to each "weapontype" and then assign a hotbar also to each weapon type.

This means that if I press X hotkey, I switch to my polearm while at the same time I get a new hotbar which is assigned to that weapon. Here I can put all my weapon spesific abilities.

If I now press Y hotkey I switch to my staff while it at the same time switch to my "staff hotbar" where I got all my magical skills. etc etc.

How do you manage to do this (Switch to a new hotbar and switch to the specified weapon at the same time?)

With a macro.

To the OP.. I play with the arrow keys. However, I never could be arsed to rebind food etc to a key nearby. As a result, I take my hand off the mouse (lol) and press a number to eat stuff. Used to do it with weapons too before I rebound them. Surprisingly enough it actually works, although I probably should stop being lazy and fix my binds.

How often do you switch weapons? I have my sword out at all times, I only pull out a bow when someone is running away and I'm out of melee range.

I simply rebound the sprint key

i use a belkin n52te keypad, it used a d-pad for w s a d moving which uses just my thumb for moving then everything else is at my fingertips, also there are 3 different hotswitch key maps, one for farming, one for foot combat and one for mounted.
It took a really really long time getting used to and alot of re-keymapping because i felt all thumbs at first but im really starting to get the hang of it when combined with a g9 mouse theres tonnes of extra buttons for macros.

also i really like the idea of a hotbar for each weapon. I'll definately be macroing that into my arsenal. thanks :)

edit: before that i was using a generic zboard which was almost as bad as a regular keyboard. even worse when it came to leaning into a swing while mounted.

Is all this macro crap you guys are talking about even legal?

Attended resource macroing is one thing. I don't do it but at least you're not gaining some huge advantage as your macro is performing actions just as fast as you could.

The stuff mentioned in this thread though...the macro is going to do what you described faster than is possible from a player.

I am not sure why you would have to take a finger off forward or sprint. Pinkie is sprint(shift), middle finger w, then you have 2nd finger to hit 1 & 2, and 4th finger to hit 3 &4.

I also changed what my hotbars are bound too.
Hotbar 1 I bound to `
Hotbar 2 I bound to TAB
The others I bound to Ctrl #

This is working well for me so far.(it gets messed up if you have the hotbars bound with shift becuase sprint is shift, though some people change the sprint key)

out of curiosity -- how can you not keep pushing w while pushing the 1-6 number buttons? is your left hand in the size of a baby?

no seriously, what the fuck?

I bound my hotbars with the F1 F2 F3 F4 F5 so I could sprint and change hotbars

Buy a mouse with multiple keys that can be reassigned in games. I use a Logitech MX Revolution with 13 available hotkeys. I've arranged my 2hsword, bow, wand, and main spells to all the asorted buttons near my thumb and middle buttons so I rarely use the keyboard other then to move.

could you write a little example how to do it?

Manually do whatever you want to do and pay attention to the keys you're pressing. Then macro it.

Mana missile is set to "5"

Gank is set to "0"

Thank you!!

I can come with a few pointers here tho i wont ruin it all...

For your bind issues what i did was rebing my hotbar selections from "Shift + 1-9" to "Alt + 1-9" This will prevent you from messing up your hotbats while sprinting. and being unable to change weapons in sprint mode. Also bind your actionbar next and previous keys to something easy, mine are at F1 and F2 meaning i can sprint and change hotbars without having to stop sprinting.

Also in 1v1 learn to use block. "V key on the keyboard". Its a great way to keep ahead in a fight up close and also saving stamina. Sure youll loose stamina from blocking + damage however youll use less than if you just take the blow. Remember if you fight right youll never die in a 1v1 fight with any stamina left. Once you got that down, its all a part of learning how to conserve your stam but that will be a chapter for another day.

I bound my hotbars to the numpad keys which are detected as different keys to the normal number keys in the input bindings. I moved gank and revive to page up and page down and my hotkeys are 1, 2, 3, 4, caps, tab, ¬, \, z, x so I can access them all quickly without moving my left hand from the WASD keys.

I think I will rebind the hotbars to the function keys though and take up the suggestion to use a macro key for changing hotbar and weapon at the same time.
