View Full Version : PvM with Elemental Magic: Loss or Gain of gold?

I am currently at 49.7 Greater Magic and should be able to choose Elemental very soon. Last night as I layed in bed dreaming about how I would reach elemental this morning and be able not just to own players, but to kill something besides trolls and skeletons for fun and profit, it struck me:

"Wait, if each casting of a rank1 elemental spell costs 8gp for the reagents, and I have to cast it 10 times to kill a mob, that is 80gp I've spent to kill it..."

*dream shattered*

I imagine that higher level mobs will have such high HP that it will take at least 10 or more casts (without missing!) to take them down. And still, I doubt they would be dropping 100 gold to make a profit. Even a zombie, lets say, would take at least 6 casts to take down, 6x8=48gp, and they only drop 10 gold. Ugh. Even something that drops reagents, like a troll, drops maybe 4 sulfur and 10 gold, and still would be a loss for a fire mage.

So I ask anyone out there who has hit elemental and done some PvM: is it possible to make a profit using elemental in PvM?

90-120 arrows to drop earth elementals by yourself, and they drop crap that is worth about 120g and reagents.

arrows hitting for 14-16 front, double that from the back...

arrows cost between .7-.9 a piece from people

so thats 81-108g to make 120g + some reagents.

now factor in the time to get new arrows and the 6-10 mins it too to kill the thing.

(6 mins of shooting arrows w/o breaks minimum)

killing bigger stuff is can be fun but idk if its worth it in the long run, lots of skillups though? :)

Better not miss twice, cause then you need to melee/archery. And then you have to rest along time before you can go kill next mob.
