I did my first succesful enchant, after finally getting the right ingredients (got loads, but not the right amounts, or right type)
I had the materials for 0.8 Slashing Resistance to Chest, and had a success on a Banded Cuirass, which is now a Banded Cuirass of Slashing Protection.

When equipped, I get the correct bonus, but there's nothing in the item description that shows that it's 0.8, only that it's Slashing Protection.

How do you know its .8 slashing resistance to chest then?

Erm....because it gave him 0.8 slashing resistance bonus to his stats?

Working as intended, it's not a bug

yeah all item descripts even enchanted items from chests just give a title, no point evaluation of the item.

you only see the enchantment if you check your armour rating wile you have it equipted or if you put it inthe enchanting workbench.

that said, it would be a GREAT improvement to see the numerical values of what is gained by the enchants.
also link enchantments in chat, not just the item.

Part of your problem is a misunderstanding of the ingredients. You say you had the components for 0.8 slashing protection while you actually had the components for slashing protection. This is clear as items with different bonuses for the same type use the same ingredients.

whith the disappearing of stats, i had this occur to me 2 days ago. I /gm_help the problem, talk for a bit, tells me the solution.

i just sat down, exited via quit in menu (NOT alt+f4), restart game. Problem fixed.

I am not sure if this helps people, some people experiencing queue times. I no longer am effected by this problem

doing a /bindstone_recall or entering/exiting a dungeon will also fix it, as you pass a loading screen.

OK, I accept I had the mats for +slashing protection, not necessarily 0.8 , that's fine, but how do you sell the item to another player ?

"Here, I've got this chest, it's got 100 slashing protection, you can't see it, you will just have to believe me...<sprint like hell>"
or
"Here, I've got this chest, it's got 0.8 slashing protection on it. You can't see it, so try it on, then give me the cash..... Oi where are you going!"

Without the customer having some way to see what the actual enchant is, we're limited to clan/alliance/personal enchants only, which restricts trade a lot.

The Disappearing stats issue can also be fixed by dropping the item into the bank, then taking it out usually, but with the enchanted items, it does not help to show the bonus

If df had a working kos list you could just tell every friend you know to tell every crafter they know to add him to their kos list. But because it's not working properly (you cannot see if the guy is on your kos list by mousing over him) that will happen.

A KOS list is a bit different to stats on an item. The KOS list, any clan member can still look on the clan pages and make a note of the list - and it may be working correctly.

The stats on the items is different, it's like taking all the stats off all items. How would you know what weapon to use if it just said "Sword" ? How would you sell a stack of timber if it didn't give the quantity (other than 1 at a time).
Crafting is supposed to be part of the economy and trade, but Enchanting at the moment is outside of the trading economy, because you only get a simple description that could mean anything, and have to rely on the honesty of the seller - and we all know how trustworthy DF players are :D
