Question for the masses, have you seen a noticeable difference with the various staff types? I believe I have seen a reduction in the casting time for the Dwarven Blackbolt, but I haven't measured it to be be sure.
Was just wondering if higher level spell casters have seen a difference in damage/healing, and if so, how much of a difference?
Yes there is a difference... Its clearly labeled by rank and damage numbers.

Ive used various staves, and there is a difference when using staves of appropriate level. However it's not great I only do a few more dmg with a rank appropriate staff than the newb staff with mana missle. This may change more beyond GM however.

With Traitor's Glory, my Eldritch Sphere hits for 16 (front). With Darkheart, it hits for 20. That's a hell of a difference IMO.

That's good to know. Thank you for the feedback.

Traitor's Glory and Darkheart are both rank 20 staffs, craftable by alchemists at 25 skill. T.G. is a straightforward upgrade from the lower-rank staffs, Darkheart has a much slower cast but gives a power bonus.
Darkheart is 1 Wood, 1 Heart, and I think there's some herb involved... Baneberry? I forget. The heart makes it relatively rare. Traitor's Glory is 1 Wood, 1 Iron, 5 Snakeweed, far easier to grind and therefore very common. I've heard of Darkheart dropping from mobs, dunno about T.G.

Someone in my clan has found Darkheart as a drop to its confimred. And yeah its 3 baneberrys involved in making it with alchemy.
I still grind the lowest lvl staff since I dont notice any huge differance in lvl gain from grinding that and Traitors specially since the lowest lvl requires lot let mats.

I regularly use the rank 75 version of the darkheart called the blackbolt. It does significantly more damage than the previous staves. I have 92 alchemy so I should be able to craft the 100 staves.

You sure about this? As I think it was the blackbolt did less dmg but its quicker.

Description what given staff do before you craft it would be nice ;)
But I see writing descriptions is hard for AV.

Yeah tis definatly true. We tested them. Blackbolt does more damage.

Staff damage is equivalant to weapon damage. You're not going to see a huge damage increase going from a .1 to a .2, but it will be there.

You mean overall then? But doesnt it burn regents like a mother?
Uhh, the Blackbolt is only a rank 40 staff and is craftable at 50 alchemy. You must be thinking of a different staff. It's quite the opposite of the Darkheart, fast casting speed but shit damage. Very good for casual casters but it's worthless to elemental mages since you need the most bang for your buck when it comes to spamming mana greedy spells.

yes, higher level staves do more damage, or have shorter casting times, or prolly both.

Why are there epic/uber melee weapons and a bow, but no staff?

much slower cast? its 0.2 slower.... which is barely anything, it maybe adds .2 seconds to a 2sec cast MM or firebolt, for an amazing dmg boost. get the spellcasting speed enchant and its even faster for more dmg.

Rank has nothing to do with damage.
Its all about the damage mod. Ive seen rank 40 staves better then rank 80 for damage/power.
Darkheart is one of the best Ive seen at .43

.2 is 20% slower.
So if it takes 2 seconds to cast its now 2.4 seconds to cast. Just putting your facts straight.

Don't believe this is correct... Weapon speed looks to me like a divisor.
So if the base time to cast a spell is 1 second, a standard 0.5 staff will cast it in 1/0.5 = 2 seconds. Darkheart (0.3) will cast it in 1/0.3 = 3.33 seconds, Blackbolt (0.7) will cast in 1/0.7 = 1.43 seconds.

i just dinged 75 alchemy today and i think the guy above means the Dark Scepter which has a 0.3 cast time and around 0.76-0.79 damage modifier. (36 dmg nuking myself with 30 air magic and 27 ball lightning)

Short answer: yes there is a noticable difference, but some staff are high effect while some are faster casting. The Deersticks I craft and use a lot have about .30 - .31 crafted dmg, and they raise the effect quite a lot, atleast percentage-wise.

The fast cast staves still got same mana cost I suppose? So they are totaly useless I think. Better to use high damage stave than run out of mana for spamming spells and wasting reagents.

the main use of the Blackbolt is for heavily armored guys to crank out their Mana To Stamina and Heal Self in a reasonable amount of time. it is not supposed to be a casters staff.
