One of the early starter quests tells you that a novice level in the harvest skill ensures that you never fail in harvesting. I assume that the Novice level is 25. What are the advantages of raising harvesting beyond that point?

Quest is wrong. You will experience fails at any level.

Advantages to raising harvesting skills =

1. More successes
2. Skill point gains (str, wis, etc..)
3. Opens up mastery at 75 (harvest faster)
4. Gather more items at a time from city nodes (quary, grove, farm, etc.)

I've run multiple test from ranks 0-75 in both mining and logging.

1. There is absolutely no rhyme or reason in regards to success/failure rate at various skill levels. It's 50-50 chance from level 1 - 1,000,000. I can post the test if you need proof.

2. This is true. Although at this point, stats (aside from wisdom, and int) don't seem to garner much effect. I've been drained by hags and still hit just as hard with my str and dex at 0 vs. full.

3. Yep. Up to 2 seconds off.

4. I was under the impression that these were not even implemented yet?

I was wondering about number 1 myself. I didn't do any testing as you did, but just from my overall impression it did not feel like at level 85 in my harvesting skill I had any better success rate that I did when i started. I also had someone tell me that the skill increased the chance of a rare gem dropping, but I haven't noticed anything significant in that regard either.

Pretty stupid that raising a skill has virtually no effect, other than allowing you to get another skill once you get it high enough.

The success rate is certainly higher than 50%. It's not as high as 75%, at least not at 100 base/100 master/40 wisdom, but it's somewhere between 60 and 70%. It is not impossible that wisdom affects the success rate more than skill.

1. I would say 1-25 you notice a lot of failures, but after 25 you notice a difference.

4. Tested and confirmed, at ~55 herb gathering I was getting 2/3 at a time from the farm, someone with ~10 skill was getting 1 and someone with maxed herb gathering/master was getting 5 at a time.

With higher harvesting skills, you also use less stamina while harvesting. No data to back that up, but it is what I have observed.

Agreed

When I started mining I could sit on a node through a full stamina bar and not mine all the ore. Now at mining 95 and mastery 60 something I can mine out all 51 resources and still have about 25% or more of my stamina left over.

Groves are definitely in.. we have one in our city. And they return more mats per harvest. I usually get two wood from each harvest.. sometimes two woond and one reson from a sinlge harvest..

only problem, is they run out WAY too fast .. even when your the only one on em.. not sure why.

How many Nodes are in the grove??
How fast do they run out?
whats the point of building clan nodes/mines etc if they run out as fast or faster than elsewhere?

My mining and mastery are almost identical to yours and i've noticed the same thing. I've attributed it to two things, first I do believe I fail less than when I had a lower skill as a i frequently get 10 successes in a row. Second would be that the amount spent mining has been lowered by the mastery skill, saving more stam because of it.
