EvE Hands Down, no other game has a 360 degree universe(zone) that you fight in. Makes all actions huge. But eve is in a world of its own.
AoC because of the Melee combat, that stuff awsome just amazing and the most fun Ive ever had pvping in a MMO.
Sandbox was AC(Asherons Call) Because back in '99 (wow been to long) that game was amazing, hell it still is. Never played UO tho, wish I had. Sounds like a blast.
Overall tho, You cant come close to EvE, that game is the PvP God.

I'd say darkfall is not the best MMO I've played.
The economic aspects (gathering/crafting/trading) are terribly straightforward, uncreative, and boring. Many features that would make it interesting are missing.
The PvE is simply broken, I have never encountered a game before where you have so much difficutly assailing the starter mobs (and it only gets worse after that).
The grind is pretty bad, the only grind I've seen thats worse is a koren game I played about a year ago.
The ships, warhulks, cannons all look cool on paper but the gold sink is enormous and so no one uses them; therefore, they cant even be considered.
Last is the PvP, which is NOT player skill based, its grind based (there is a difference). I've been in way too many battles where I and others have an enemy outnumbered and they proceed to own us anyway cause their on a mount, or they can kill someone in 3 hits with banded armor.
I was laughing myself silly when I saw the first naked team on naked team battle and wondered what the point of it all was.
Anyway, this game needs a lot of work. It definitly has potencial, but its got some nasty flaws.

Eve Online = Easy to compensate lost ships or equipment within a few hours
Eve Online = autoskilling via real time (after a month you could start pvp (if you are experienced in EVE after a week)
Eve Online = secure systems with relative good security where you could farm coins and equipment / Trade-off: the lower the secure status of a system the higher the reward the higher the possibility to be ganked (love this system)
ah ok you are an eve fan
1. If you are miner, you gather 5milion worth of veldspar in empire per hour. Tech 2 ship cannot be insured really, and it cost you like 70 milions (t2 cruiser) not counting all the tech 2 equipment on it. It is more like 20hours of farming for better equiped ship. Its ONE death. You dont want to PvP in T1 do you ?:)
2. pvp after one month ? no way. Tackling with a frigate, maybe. But if pressing one button and waiting for others to kill it,is pvp for you,i dont mind :)
it takes months to get interceptor at least.

Cannon are necessary and used in almost any siege. I like the way warhulks and ships aren't common - makes them interesting. But I also agree that they are a bit TOO rare. They need to be somewhat more common.

GuildWars, although not truely MMO, i hold close to my heart. Spent almost all my time (a solid 2.5 years) just PVPing in a 8v8 environment.
The game was all about player skill, team loadout and teamplay.
Among my top5 games of all time. DF should be lucky if it even makes it into my top20.
Still you play this game? lol, stop the QQing pls :p
What i find odd is that on the numerous games i've played from the beginning its always the same story over and over again, and none seems to learn anything. Its always "this game sucks, game X is going to be the savtior", then when the game X comes out the same ppl goes nuts and comes with "This game sucks!!!! Game Y is going to be the savior!!! SCREW THIS GAME!!! QQ!!". The story always repeats itself, in this case its DF vs MO, and ppl already started the QQing about MO, the game that were supposed to be the savior :p

in terms of motivation for PvP: EVE Online, the way, they implemented the reasons for PvP, competing for hunting grounds, mining grounds and moon minerals for solo players, guilds and alliances is just incredible.
in terms of style: i would say UO pre Age of Shadows. It was just pure entertainment to simply watch a 1:1 or 2:2 mage duel. And doing it myself it was like playing chess.
in terms of massive PvP: EVE Online. Where do have a 100 vs 100 without having the feeling of zerg vs zerg ??? Zergs in EVE start when it comes beyond 1000 players in a system and even then the game is fun.
interms of longtime PVP: EVE Online. Where do you have a game with wars lasting 6 and more month ? Within the campaign about 5.000 Ships and Infrastructure have been destroyed totalling in real money value of like 1.000.000 $. Think about the logistics .... key part of the war.
DF is probably on a good road, but is far far away from that.

I'm sorry but I'd care to disagree, The feel of Eve is way off, I come home from my job just to get on my computer and go back to a job. I dislike clicking and then telling my guy to attack or encricle the enemy. Also as much as I love being rewarded for not playing, I think I'd pass on the two year skill trainings.
However it is somewhat interesting.

I'd say
WW2Online > Eve Online > Shadowbane > Darkfall
Closest comparison would be Shadowbane. One key thing with Shadowbane is every attack had a counter and vice versa. Was very balanced PvP wise. Losing a city was far, far, far more brutal.

I think my UO experience will be hard to top. I had several years of great fun playing that game. I haven't been completely drawn in by this game yet.
Yea i agree with u. my beggining years of uo bring so much back.. thats why i've come to darkfall and see what it has to offer and what will become of the game.. I'm giving it a couple of months of crafting and fighting and if the system doesn't balanced and conitnue with skill then im out..
as far as macroers u got then in every game and if people wanna let a machine do the work for them and not actually play it.. thats them settle that get soem friends and jump the motha sucka! just dont get caught by urself..=P

It is funny reading some of the post in this thread, clearly, DFO is being compared to games that are totally different, like GW and Eve.
We all have our favorite games though, and while some of you might prefer Eve to DFO, some of us despised Eve and love DFO. I guess the difference is I didn't spend time trolling in the forums of the games I didn't like. I just tried the game, decided it was not for me and left.
Wouldn't be nice if people did that all the time?

asheron's call pvp was #1 this being back in the day prior to everyone being level 126+ back when battles would break out between level 40-70's in BSD/etc.
shadowbane was 2nd.. you dropped all inventory but nothing of what you equipped. some fun behind it, could easily find people farming in their good gear and kill them and they had alot of items to sell once returning to town. also the runes made pvp hot spots.
both games had 0 durability which made it more fun i think, because items actually mean something vs spending 2 hours to craft armor just like everyone elses and wear it into battle.
then this game ranks around age of conan pvp/warcraft... its decent but not the best presentation of FFA pvp based game
Items in SB had durability. It was just possible to repair them.

While the developers broke the ame beyond all belief the best MMORPG PVP I played was Warhammer Online. From tier 1-3 the games were very fun despite being unblanced and biassed towards Order. Tier 4 sucked especially when they implemented the new capture system and killed the game.
Though to be honest, all MMORPG PVP games are rubbish - despite it being promised Darkfall does NOT incorporate player skill into the game. In order to do that there would be no skill levelling or stat boosting of any sort. No matter how skilled a player is, if someone has a higher stat in something it negates skill being needed.

The OP called for "best PvP MMO" not for "similar" or whatever.
Imho EvE is still better than DFO. Harsher, many loopholes closed (that's also due to it being an older MMO).
The EvE developers give a fuck to reimburse you lost items to server crash (DFO GM told me "yeah, sorry" and that's it).
In EvE, even if it looks impossible of a sort of point and click game, player skill is determinant and being "maxed" makes your life easier but not unbeatable at all. 2 weeks old pilots can PvP and beat worse pilots with 10 times their learned skills.
In EvE you don't have the easy mode "go naked", you lose something 2-3 RL years of grinding in few seconds.
DFO got many other things and I hope it'll really improve so much that I'll consider it "EvE Online with the middle age switch turned on".

Only if they insist on sticking to outdated "grind for your advantage" mechanics.
A properly done, strategy based RPG with no artificial advantages would require more personal skill than any raw FPS and be really fun to players like me. Of course, not many could hack that kind of environment. Hence why the lowest common denominator demands watered down simple games.

I don't think anything subsequently released has ever matched the pure hilarity of the combination of freedom + naivete of developers that was early UO.
They actually intended for players to police their own as far as player killing and other 'crimes' went. This incredible oversite made for some of the funniest things I have ever seen or done in any MMO, ever. I still laugh out loud when I think about opening a portal to a demon infested area of a dungeon from the upper level of a dungeon that is heavily congested with players and yelling "PKS, RUN RUN RUN!!" Half a dozen would typically fall for the trap at which point you could go collect the reags and armor at your leisure.
If that didn't work you could just go open a portal for the demons and bring them to the people.

I love this sort of thing. Even when I am the victim. That is when I understood what happened.
Its a good con. Not petty as pure deceit, like making people trust you as a friend and then backstab them. Or farming newbs.
Really like PvP in Darkfall, and I don't actually win on my own very often.

The PvP in this game is revitalising (till you end up fighting AoE spammers which will get fixed soon). The problem is that atm I would not call this game an MMO as it turns out in the end. One of the MMOs main features is diversification ....now THAT is something you do not see in DF....

I concurr with this 100%
AC was best game ever back in those days... just thinking about it makes me want to cream my pants. It had no restrictions what so ever back in the day and it was possible to escape people and was definitley skill based. Damn... why can't someone release a modded AC server from those times or why can't they make a special server for those days... eve pvp looks LAME. it looks like star trek on pause.
The pvp videos usually aren't as much fun to watch unless they're done really well. The cinematic (for show) videos that players make can be epic though such as:
Tortuga (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0bXxOK2eyQ), Day of Darkness II (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXWf-l71MY4), or The Butterfly Effect (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08hmqyejCYU&feature=PlayList&p=5724B132CEC9674D&index=3)
No Darkfall video has come close to being as impressive.
Videos aside, the pvp itself is the most rewarding and satisfying pvp of any MMO I've played. No other pvp MMO has given me shivers of anticipation just before a fight and no other MMO has left my hands physically shaking after surviving a pvp battle. No. Sadly I have yet to experience any similar sensation in Darkfall.

Not even close.
Project Visitor (formerly known as 10Six).
- MMOFPSRTS
- Territory control (camps)
- Camps were vulnerable 24/7 even while offline
- Home camp was safe while offline, but vulnerable while online
- Buildings, turrets, rovers, and avatar gear could all be modified in hundreds of ways
- Anything that was destroyed (including player gear/items) could be looted if it had durability left
- If you lost your home camp, you were "locked" and had to start over. (No avatar skill levels, so it's not quite as bad as it sounds. Losing all the camps you may have had and anything set-up/stored in them would certainly hurt, though.)
I'd still play if more people were there. The graphics are dated and it's pretty empty these days.

Yes...
EvE was allmost as good in the early days.
Then EVE changed to favor chr skills over player skills and in addition its so crowded that its all about the numbers now.
In darkfall I go around solo pvp or with a group of 1-5. Thats not doable in Eve anymore.
And in addition fights are much more dynamic and fun in Darkfall.
So yes yes yes...

Dunno if it was metioned before but best PvP MMO i played was Neocron/Neocron2 (cyberpunk/post apocaliptic theme). Most things were like in DF:
- FPP/TPP,
- player skill involved (aiming / tracking / movement),
- full (in begining) or semi full loot,
- outposts (smt like hamlets)
One thing that was way better: if you know what you do you was able to make any class char PvP ready in max 2 weeks (with some classes/specializations that was possible in like 48h of gameplay if you got money and friends to help you skill up)

Same shit... this game has potential but definitely not the best.
Asheron's Call 2000 through 2003 will always be best time in an MMO to date.
AC : DT
Character skills or gear could mean a lot, or very little, depending on the kind of fight you were in. The ability to really use terrain and be mobile. It went to shit eventually, but player skill meant so much more than gear/character skill does in this one.
Then Turbine went and slowly took steps to make the game a 'stand and hit each other, who is higher level?' kind of challenge. Group dynamics alleviate that a little here, but I still see it.
The options for movement and using the terrain to your advantage are big here, but nowhere as big as AC.

DF is pretty great and is just getting better, as the skill/gear levels get evened out and the game gets more competitive I think the pvp will be what I'm really looking for.
As far as best most games I've played I have had an enjoyable experience or two but most note worthy would have to be:
AC - During it's time it was amazing for pvp. Good players felt like Gods.
EQ - Rallos Zek/Sullon Zek: For anyone that played it and got to a reasonable level in the game they can attest to how much fun it was during it's time.
Lineage2 - Leveling up in that game before the rush of asians that ensued was fun, fighting over the limited amount of spawns and greifing was stupidly fun too.
Daoc - I can't say anything from a recent standpoint but when the game first came out it wasn't balanced, I was hyb, the game owned when fighting albs, but sucked when I got 1 shot by midguard people~ Cool part was getting to me was rough, so personally it was challenging early on enough to make it interesting. However there wasn't much reward in killing people which was kinda lame.
Wow - blows. Even the arena system is lame, it should be world of gear grinding.

it was for me the best during the 2 3 first month. it was up to a few hours ago a medium-boring pvp game. now it's becoming the worst I have ever known. dev have so few idea how to improve the game that they just copy paste the whining thread .. nc

UO Still the Best PVP MMO for me... But DFO is close, and i belive that after the second expasion i'll be saying that DFO is better than UO. I already say that i never played something like DFO, bcuz its diferent but not better than UO. The Elders Scroll PVP machanics is something that i was waiting for ages. I was in Darkfall's WWI, WWII but more like a noob... And i've been in the battle for Nifheilm when NWO fought against Death, and in this time i was not a noob, and just experienced the battles 100+ vs 100+ and tons of city sieges, and was awsome, something that i don't know how to explain.
Anyway, DFO need to be improved, and the devs are doing it...
Conclusion:
DFO is not the better MMORPG that i ever played... BUT IT WILL BE.
