View Full Version : Replace bindstones by ghosts

There are some problems linked to killing people :
- You can res kill someone without his consent (as if someone will consent to be res killed ... :P )
- You can camp a bindstone and thus farming alignment or preventing people from playing
- You have to gank someone to loot him, once ganked you cannot res him.

To solve these problems, I suggest to add the ghosts from UO

In UO when you die you don't get teleported to your "bindstone".
You continue to play in form of a ghost. If you want to come back to life you have to be resurrected by a player (with some magic) or a healer. When someone wants to res you, you have to explicitly accept the res.

Adding this feature will add some nice things :
- When you die, you don't stay laying down waiting for someone to gank you. The tombstone appears and you stand beside as a ghost. Now your killer can, for example, loot the shiny plate you had but he can still res you.
- During sieges, this feature will provoke the apparition of "res healers". People who will stay behind lines to res the fallen. But as only some people can res (as opposed to now when everyone can res), those people become vital targets to successfully winning or losing the siege.
- Imagine you traveled half the map with some friends to be killed by a mob 2 m from the destination. With a bindstone you go back to your starting point. But if you become a ghost, your friends can res you. The same applies to ganking parties.


Of course this feature means alot of changes :
- Removing bindstones
- Removing the gank skill.
- Giving a meaning to the revive skill, like a % chance to successfully revive a ghost (or like a increased % of life given back). Or maybe replacing this skill by a spell to make the "res healers" more rare thus more critic to a battle.

But in the end, I think this could be fun :D

Agree with the ghost thing, its really annoying to be automatic teleported back to your bindstone.. i will love to see the ghost, and that will add a new skills, spells, more teamplay, etc etc etc..

But i still likes the idea of ganking, and bindstones and all of that.. so i disagree with that

I think the idea is that, when you die (after being ganked for example) you become a ghost and you can freely choose to be teleported back to your bindstone and res there (like now), or you can stay like a ghost and try to find a wanderer healer, or a friend who res you.

The whole point of ganking is to force the person back to their bindpoint. Otherwise, sieges would go on forever.

If your going to include ghosts like UO you gotta make it so when your dead as a ghost you cannot see any living players. Otherwise ghosts will just become a form of cheap scouting.

Need to reduce the decapitations. Faster recall timers (1 min or less) with a 30-60 minute timer between use.

I am agenst this idea in its entirty, bind stones are comped are chaos stone, which carries that risk, you want protection gop to a city or a clanstone. if you travled halfway across the map and die, good, thats part of the process.

Okay, I like the approach, but it could be done without stripping down the current system so much.

My opinion:

Leave everything in. Give an option on death "return to bindstone?" or "become ghost" (worded better, that is). Returning to the bindstone acts the same as currently, but becoming a ghost allows you to hang out at your corpse (or wander a limited ways around it). You would persist as a ghost either indefinitely or for a limited time (30min-hour) before you are either resurrected or are automatically respawned at your bindstone (you can choose to return to your bindstone at any time). Create a spell in the arcane or spell chanting trees that resurrects a completely dead character.

There, now players can enjoy your benefit, but the original system as well.

i agree with OP and i want to add something on when we die. i want to have an option (a key maybe) to YELL for HELP.. cause sometimes i die and near enemies come to "Help me" aka loot my tombstone...while i could stfu and run to my tombstone and get my stuff back. someother times i see someone that can res me but my stupid toon doesnt yell at that time..so i would like to have a key to yell help if i want and not randomly as it is now ;)

Agree, ghost system is better than current.
Best idea is:
1. When you are killed, you become incapacitated.
2. Anyone can gank you, then you become a ghost. Or you can press a key to become a ghost.
3. When you are ghost, you are able to travel to any bind stone and resurrect there.
4. When you are ghost, you are able to teleport to your bindstone and resurrect there.
5. When you are ghost, anyone with proper skill can resurrect you. If you are resurrected right on your corpse/grave, you gain all your stuff, containing in grave. No automatic resurrect.
6. You are unable to see any character/creature while being ghost. Anyone can see you, when you are holding special key.

PS. maybe automatic teleportation should have a place, if your character is in ghost mode more than 10 minutes. Then teleport every 10 minutes to current bindstone to avvoid using ghost travel as cheap safe travel method. Or remove universal banks.

Yes.. but i still like the idea of becoming a ghost.. at least for like 10 minutes and if you want to, so that you can find a nearer wanderer healer and rez there or a player can rez you
