If you use a bow you can hold the arrow until you release the button - the same thing there is with spells.
But there is nothing like that for melee combat.
But i think for a better controled melee combat we also need this for melee-weapon-combat. So if i push the button my char mack a backswing and after i release the button i do strike. So exactly the same whats happen with archery and spell-casting.

how about if you knock an arrow you still have the ability to put it away instead of having to fire it, or you could cancel a spell.

did you ever played a larger scale fight in this game with a lot of melee on both sides its qute horrible to do controled dmg like the 2 rangedmg types.
at the moment you can bypass the time penality with bow and staff (spellcasting). But its only for the first strike a real bypass, after it itsn't - and this is usefull for all melee combat not only for 2h weapons.
Its in my eyes rly needed for a controled melee PvP - so u see your opinion on this is wrong.
