so no lag when we have normal sized battles (20-40 enemies + us) but when a huge battle shows up I get unplayable lag? How does that work against my connection?

I agree with this. When the battle gets real big the sync issues kick in. Lag is horrible at times. Had this happen today. Also Zone loads suck to. When someone hits one they are vulnerable for a couple of seconds till they lag back in game.

maybe they should add multicore support so i think my i7 920 can handle huge battles easily. Together with my 4870.

FPS or ping latency lag? If it's the former then it's your PC. I've been in 100+ battles and the only thing I noticed was a lowered FPS, no connection problems to speak of.

I was running ok on a Q6600 OC @ 3.2ghz, 8800GT OC, 4GB memory, Windows XP, & Raid hardrive setup. My framerates were cut by about 50%. Preformance was pretty mediocre though, and many people were having problems.

Going to be hard to hold 500+ size battles for many people.

props to the defenders, especially exilium members.

This really needs to be optimized to run on duel/quad core processors as having the top rated quad doesn't make much of a difference right now =/

Unfortunately no one takes advantage of the quad core yet. I use only one program that makes use of it.

The problem is when the server is lagging. When you have like 20 ping and some actions take 5s to get feedback, it's hard to hit people. Even to loot or just sheath/unsheath your weapon.

My GF9800GX2 handles everything just fine in DF while playing WAR or AoC chokes it to death DF engine is much better at handling big fights.

Hope they do something to server lag though.

Reduce the number of 3D sound a lot, if it don't work, upgrade your computer. Servers are fine.

E8400 dual core, 3 ghtz
4 gigs ram
vista 64
8800 gts (320mb)

I was in the same battle with this specs:
Single core AMD 3800 proc
4870 Graka 512 mb
Win XP
1 Gig Ram (!)
Playing on 1900*1200 on 24" screen

In the beginning of the battle it was unplayable. I started lowering settings, shadows off, texture quality the worst etc. Did not help. I put the texture quality up again.

Then I set the amount of max audio sounds at once from 256 down to 8.
Suddenly game is almost smooth, playable, I can fight wuhuu!!
I think the audio of DF needs major tuning, this will help a lot in reducing lag.

My Specs are mediocre I know, anyway I am amazed how smooth it went after my discovery. Gonna get one more gig of ram and Its perfect imo.

Sounds are the biggest issue for me. If I am engaging in massive PvP I turn them down. With sounds at max I got ~30fps, with sounds at min ~120fps, in a 300+ man battle.

I had fps issue on 200+ battle.

Seems shadows off/on and other settings didn't help much either - it was low fps but definetelly playable.

The problem was only the server-side lag which strangelly in not equal distributed. You could see that in the battle - some poeple were just trying to move and out-of-syncin in that matter. You could see their mana missiles staying in mid-air for several seconds without moving, while other were choppin in the fray like mad. For some the battle was like target practice on dummies.

The problem is most likely your *processor*. This is the problem I experienced. My video card renders the scenes just fine... but darkfall eats up mega processing when there are 100+ people around...

you can test this, by going into a busy battle, then looking straight down at the ground. See how your FPS are still really low? If it was your video card, you'd be getting good fps, cause there is nothing to render. But its not. Its because your processor is trying to keep track of too much shit going on around you.

The game doesnt utilize multiple cores, so you're pretty much fucked. buy a super badass processor/mobo with very high FSB... or lag. I dont see the DF devs going any sort of optimization any time soon.

*I found this out, because I'm running a 9800 GTX+, which is bad ass, but my process is a Pentium D, 3.2 GHz.. which is two p4 cores on one die. But its only 533 mhz FSB... so darkfall chokes it.

crashfall, just traveling in large crews is very dangerous. We were traveling in a group of about 130 last night and 60+ people would crash all at once. This is not computer issues if 50% of the people are crashing.

I noticed on top of MH mountain it was very unplayable until there were 80 people on screen down from 250. Jumped from 2-3 fps to 30-40 when many left. I really like the game except i will have to spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars to get the specs to play in the bigger battles as of now. herb gathering ftw?

Paranoia21
03-21-2009, 09:42 PM
Considering if u look at the min/rec reqs , Most DF players Don't have super computers and don't want to spend over 1000 quid on a setup just to play an MMO, all i think is really needed is Multicore support it would reduce a lot of issues

Why do I have the feeling that you have a machine older than you?

Dethstarr
03-21-2009, 10:13 PM
Why do people keep blaming the individual machines here. Personally fortunate enough to have marketing folks sending me hardware foc in order to gain my business through their companies. Speaking purely personally I have experienced occasional issue in every game I seen. just like any business MMO's dont invest on the basis of absolute resilience. If you were trading stocks at the same rate its worth it but for an MMO your just looking at reasonable peaks and troughs in data. If suddently you get a huge number of people flocking to one area its likely to cause a problem for anyone. This game is new and resources (and this is my assumption based on launch) are likely to be more limited than alot of more mature MMO companies. It wont happen all the time to everyone but it will happen on occasions where an area gets swamped. yep ISP and personal computing specs make a big difference but outside this there is a limit to what you can do anyway. You should be glad that your one of the lucky ones that actually got a session that allowed you through to get a pre order or license at the point of sale to be honest. Anyway my point is this is a long thread where no one can really offer a solution. Web "weather" changes every day. How you going to control that? I tried nailing up routes etc in the past to specific destinations to reduce hops etc but the less resources at the end of it the less chance you have of a decent experience no matter what spec you have at home or what you do to reduce latency etc over your internet connection. Just bear in mind it could be worse. I been waiting ages to see if this game was even worth waiting for hahaha.

I got the DF.exe runtime eror xxx like 4 times...and 2-3fps... at the begginig, before many people got disconnected. I thought that a q9450 and a ATI 4870 + 4gb ddr2800 should have been able to handle it..but it wasn't.

Won't help, at least for me it didnt change anything if i had my settings/resolution at max or lowest. The only noticeable change came from decreasing the 3D sounds but it's still unplayable in large battles (200+ people).
