With Global Nodes its now Essential.
Thats pretty much all i can think of TBH.
i think people take it way out of context
theres SOO many node spawns in the world...just find less populated areas. GTFO the starter zones or other popular areas.

basically....this also stresses dependence on other people as well...if you want to farm safely, get a few ppl together and find a quiet place, that way if a gank squad shows up you stand a chance...also completely removes afk-macroing

Doesnt mean its a bad thing either, now gathers will need to venture away from thier guild cities making it not so easy to get away :ninja:

I *still* gather solo just fine. Just find somewhere about 1/2 km away from any major NPC towns and very node is full. Also there's hardly any traffic except the occasional person passing through, who if you are watching and aware of, isn't a problem.

[OOC]: The problem isn't finding nodes, it's the danger that comes with lower supply and gank squads knowing there are more people farther away from safezones. The more secluded the better, but any place near a bank will likely be prime gank squad zones, meaning you'll have to run farther to get your ore into the bank.

Or, find a safe spot and /bindstone_recall
I guess mercs will get more work and we might end up with "minin operations" like in eve.

I tested yesterday during primetime near Akathos.
Where I found nodes:
Stone: abundantly available within tower range
Wood: abundantly available within tower range but a bit closer to the edge
Herbs: abundantly available just outside tower range
Iron: Found one a bit outside tower range, close enough to sprint back if you get into trouble
I succesfully harvested one nodes worth for all of the above. Still even though it's easy to find it's clear that iron will be in less supply as there's no chance at finding an equivalent amount of nodes as before.
Obviously I did not need to travel in group for any of this and I doubt I'd ever need to.
The main difference is that the most popular nodes within cities are empty now. Which is very welcome.

Farmed 150 ore last night and didn't see a single person. Mounts are a great get away tool as well. Honestly, harvesting alone is easily possible and certainly grouped harvesting is not essential.
What is essential now (for *most* parts of the world, I know you can go REAL remote without much of a problem) is actually being at the keyboard when harvesting.

No solo harvester will ever get a fair fight. They have to stare at a rock or bush , remaining still and making noise for at least 8 seconds straight. Anyone who decides to actively hunt gatherers is going to know this and use cover to approach and be basically undetectable until the attack.
This means:
The ganker has at least the same level of armor protection
The ganker has the option of bringing friends
The ganker has the element of surprise
The ganker gets in a free back shot
The ganker has a stamina advantage
The ganker can choose to have a mount advantage (as in be on one from the start or hop on one a half second after attacking)
The only shot the harvester has is to be significantly better at PvP than the ganker or have significantly more potions. Of course, the harvester can't determine either of these factors. Their best shot is to hope the opponent isn't very good.
Of course, it gets worse quickly when you start talking about 2v1 or more. Which is exactly why the harvester can't load up on plate armor, uber weaponry and a bunch of potions - a single harvesting run will never pay for those things, so the risk of losing them to a passing gank squad is far greater than the potential reward.
