View Full Version : Crafting + NPC Guards

We've all seen how making the higher-end weapons can actually cost money to make them.
I say do away with having to give money to make your own weapons, and make it so that all you need is the material. It'd free up the economy a bit and allow for more in-depth player-to-player trading.
I suggest adding guards in place of towers. They accomplish the same goal with the loophole that guards are killable, and therefore making nooby towns somewhat vulnerable, as the game intended.

The game needs more money sinks imo, i therefore like the fact that a lot of the crafted gear requires gold.
At the moment these are the main gold sink and i dont know what would happen if they were removed.

Keep Suggestions Seperate so they can be discussed Sepeartly.
But no, I disagree with the gold Part. The gold cost on crafting is there to stop the Economy being overflowed with Cash. There has to be gold coming out of the Economy as well as in.
Although with Guards i totally agree. They should be mounted and about as hard to kill as say... Revenants, if you have fought them it takes at least 6 people to take them down confortably, 2 with a lot of kiting.

For a noob who wants a Mercian Claymore and has to shell out 200 gold for a single sword, it's a bit much. Even if you were to sell it you might get 100g for it at the most.

People buy most of their stuff from NPC vendors already, why should they have to take have yet another gold sink?

You know the way everyone exploits mobs? As in, getting them caught on stuff, blocking them in with shields, etc, etc? (alright, that last one isn't exactly an 'exploit', but it would be in a guard situation, where people can contain the guards while their clanmates kill people) That's exactly what will happen with the guards. They're not going to have better path-finding/ways to get around than mobs.
For that reason, I would prefer towers to guards with our current mob AI.

without the money on crafting, we will probably finally see people wearing gear, because it isn't so tedious to get it anymore.
people will stock up on reagents, so we will see more spells and not only MM spam.
increase the ressource requirement...
imo it is a good thing... ressource nodes will give an even bigger reason to fight over.
"high-end" stuff mostly requires skinning ressources anyway, so there is still the point of fighting over PvE spots
it will also lower the impact on the newb areas, where nearly everyone farms his/her gold which will be burnt by crafting.

I'm tired.
And they do? The only thing i bought from a vendor was a different Newbie Weapon, maybe the odd bit of leather for crafting.
People need to remember there are players all over waiting for your cash, Buying Vendor armou isn't as good as crafted.

Yes but it's faster and you don't have to haggle with idiots over the price.
I liked the Runescape economy if I'm honest. Vendors were alright, but their items were way overpriced and there was always a merchant who would sell it to you cheaper if you really bugged them for it. There wasn't any fixed price on anything, not until fairly recently. The difference between that game and Darkfall is that Darkfall's materials take more time to gather and there are a lot more of them, so getting anything done takes forever.
Also, nobody sells things in Darkfall besides on chat. You can't just go to Varrock and ask around for a good Mithril chestplate, the game is too big for that. Therefore, people go to the NPC vendors, waste their monies there and then can't even craft weapons without losing money.
