PLAYER INTERACTION.
Did you miss that?
PLAYER INTERACTION.
The whole point of an MMO is to provide an environment where players can interact with one another in a cooperative and adversarial way. We love Darkfall because it provides this environment with almost no restrictions. There is no omniscient force that tells you "No, you may not attack or steal from that player." We can agree UO was the first and last mainstream MMORPG that lived up to this ideal until Trammel. Every mainstream MMORPG since then has given players tools that allow and encourage anti-social behavior -- anti-Player Interaction tools like consensual-only PvP combat or instanced environments, or closed parties/groups. We play Darkfall because we're tired of systems that seek to limit our enjoyment for the sake of players who'd be better off playing Baldur's Gate or Morrowind, where they do not have to worry about other players getting in the way of their fun.
Auction Houses and NPC vendors are tools, just as a "PvP Flag" system is, that directly seek to reduce the amount of player interaction that is required to accomplish something; in this example, trade. Again, why do you want to play an MMORPG if you don't want to have to interact with other players? These players, the same ones that feel they are entitled to solo all content in the game, regard the rest of us as better-than-NPC backdrops to their own schizophrenic adventures. We are merely obstacles to whatever their selfish goal happens to be; GM Armoring, mastery of magic, whatever. Giving these players Auction Houses or NPC vendors is just enabling their anti-social behavior.
tl:dr - Go play a single player game!
(Note) I would be scamming you in game right now if not for Compilers class.
