Should there be multiple server types?

Hmm.. multiple server types are a two edged sword, you split the community
and the population to the different server types.
If DFO have more than enough followers it could be a good deal, but if we are
only say 50.000 and they are split in 3-5 language type servers(only marked)
and this servers in multiple server(mcs, scs, rpg and whatever type)
types we get a problem with underpopulated servers.

That's my biggest beaf with it aswell.. but i would rather have split then multiple character servers.
2 server types, maybe more MCS server than SCS but there are a lot of guys who wanna prefer scs, so they should get a least 1 !!! server :D

Look at the poll, it shows most players (more than 50%) in favour of SCS, not MCS as u suggest, so surely if anything it should be mostly SCS, with 1 MCS
edit: thats the poll here (http://forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php?t=15378) ofcourse

In my opinion, this game will NEVER be popular enough to warrant more than 2 or three servers. AT MOST. I'm extremely worried its going to be just one, which would suck alot.
I think there should be one SCS server and one "All RPKs go here to mess up the game and cause massive chaos" server. Its about the best we can hope for.

I voted just one. I always found multiple servers not to my interest. Divide the community. I dont like it.

okay, so it doesn't say (specifically)
It does somewhere, cant be bothered to read quote, but in an interview the devs (Claus i think) said they were gonna have to go with more than one, but didnt suggest that there would be speciality servers.

People keep saying they want one server, but why? The only comment I've seen is "devides the community!"
Whats wrong with that? Sounds like a good thing to me. I personally plan to be as devided from THIS community as I can get!

The problem is, these servers are huge, compared to other games.
I would rather have 10,000 people in one server then 5,000 in 2 servers.
And this being a hardcore pvp game it might not get enouph subscribers to fill up 2 full servers at all times.

I don't dissagree, but assuming that there ARE enough people, would anyone actually object then?

The game isn't even out yet and people are whining.. grr

Well, no kidding. I've never seen a game where the community wasn't like this prior to release. I still remember the Diablo II suggestions forum where people "suggested" things for years while they waited for that game to come out. Not a single thing anyone suggested was ever added to the game even though they delayed it about ten times, but people still sat around that forum constantly.
And don't even get me started on what an awful community Shadowbane had prior to release. (And now most of those jerks are here...)
But quit whining yourself and stop trying to hijack this thread.

Well with the world being so large I think it would be best to keep the servers limitted, especially if we are not expecting a lot of people to be playing (come on people its ok to be a little optimistic).

Hey, it's a fresh poll. It takes time to see the real outcome especially since all SCS zealots rushed to that poll to proof how freaking pro-SCS this community is. NOT!
Looks like MSC is having the majority now and it will prolly get a bigger majority over time.

Multiple servers please! I for one would like to play several different races just to try them out. Playing on servers with different times zones is cool too. Playing with different communities that exist on other servers would be cool as well. And to speak fankly, I'm sure that don't want to play on the same server as some of you jack-asses anyways (not pointing fingers).

Incorrect. The debate is about different types of servers. Not multiple vs single server

The debate is stupid, the Devs are making the game their way and that is the only way the are going to let us play it.

Divided we stand.
No plx, this modest community is already divided into EU and US. If anymore server types are added I'd want to be apart of an expansion *ie let us play normal game for a year+

Necroing is bad, but this is a good topic.
Different server types would only be interesting from a ruleset setup standpoint. So for instance, maybe there is one where you can only belong to a NPC clan (Maharim race dev journal being an example) and the tribes battle for the central racial city. The winner gets a bonus and the more racial cities they conquer the more bonuses they get. To make it interesting every tribe gets its own bonuses which make different playstyles function better under each ruleset. There are no racial alliances.
Maybe another server could be alliances based on prestige classes, and on that server it is much easier/quicker to get a prestige class.
Generally speaking if they changed how the alignment system worked on each server, but kept the core of the game the same, I think it would be interesting and not split the community all of that much. That said, if some rulesets are way too favored it may tip some servers to being way underpopulated which would be 0 fun.

Take an example from Shadowbane.... Yes Shadowbane. I dont ask to write code as them but they did a lot of innovation. I love the way Shadowbane manage "temperature" of server. To create more confrontation they would simply set less less resources for server. It would produce heated conflict over resources. I love "last standing" server idea. If only they could code...
I dont know how many people this game will attract and hold. It's all idle speculation but regardless game needs test server. It's a must. Test server is industry standard and for game with 1 char for server it simple a must have.

I would like a regular server, and a free-for-all PVP server with no alignment penalties for killing anyone.

Well saying a server will be under-populated isn't exactly true, with over 50k accounts on forumfall already (Some people may have two?) I'm sure we can expect a steep rise in interest in the game as we approach the release date.
I would think two servers would be optimum.
But then again i'm not an expert on this type of thing, i'm just judging off current numbers.
Edit: But more on the original topic, a server for a set of time-zones? It could help avoid "early morning zergs" when it is daytime in their country.

I like the idea of differnt themed servers. like the "Maharim civil war" Theme, or a them where the goblins are rebelling agianste the orks. Same basic rules for each server but with differnt factions, enviorment, Ect.

dindt read replies, but i think one server is enough otherwise you will scatter communitiy, and in a game like this (huge) with this gameplay (pvp and cooperation) its not smart to find ourselves alone, and its not smart for devs to rise our chanches to be it, by creating more servers.

In general, I think splitting up an already niche audience is a bad idea so I'd say no to different rulesets. But Archmichael's post makes a good point. Having a FFA server without the alignment penalties which we don't really need might be good. Still, I'm counting on the fact that the alignment penalties are there simply to avoid excessive n00b ganking and won't play much of a factor as people move beyond the starting areas.
Necroing is bad, but this is a good topic.
better to necro an old thread than start a new one imo. then you have the benefit of the prior discussion. it shows someone actually took the time to search and find an existing thread. this should be seen as a good thing.

The worlds will be large enough that they can house multiple types of communities within one world. On release there will be just one server type and it is up to the players to decide how they play within so there will be no need for a different type of server.
You can do whatever you want, but always remember; If someone doesn't like you, or what you are doing, they can kill you and they usually will.
Just one. No permadeath server, No Multi-character server.
