I figured that game would fail when they first started talking about it.

Halo Wars is a console RTS. Console RTSs suck. Therefore, Halo Wars suck. I believe they call that the transitive law...

Oh, and it's Halo, don't forget that.

If it came out for the PC, I might've given it a shot, but why the hell would Ensemble Studios make their last game and RTS on a console?

Because Microsoft shelled out millions for them to do it, of course.

Seems to me that Halo did exactly what every other shooter did...

Yeah, my friend has had it for a few days actually. :ninja: It was pretty craptacular. He's a Halo fan for some reason though and thinks it's pretty good. But he does kinda just buy every game that comes out though, I'm sure he'll be playing something different in a few days.

RTS generally fail at being strategy games and would be better described as shoot'emup as clicking buttons fast is often more important than tactics and lately they have removed the strategy by implementing mechanisms that make economical victories next to impossible (f ex diminishing returns on income sources or non linear upkeep.), have no diplomacy aspect like many turn-based games have, and have units that are too versatile and dependent on micromanaging, f ex spellcaster units and units that can transform back and forth or being able to withstand all types of weapons and able to kill any other unit to the point you only need that type if you have the economy and tech to support them.

IMO it is better to make games like ROME:TOTAL WAR where the economy is not part of the tactical game at all, but I'd describe that as a turn based strategy/ real time tactics game.

Anyway I saw some review that claimed Halo Wars was a good game, didn't even bother to read is as I assumed he was full of shit. I guess I was right.

All three of the actual Halo games sucked nuts, I don't know why you would have thought an RTS stemming from a shitty FPS franchise would be any better.

I own a 360 for a lot of reasons, but Halo is definitely not one of them.

No, Halo Wars didn't suck because it's a console rts. It sucked because console rts's are much better now.

LOTR: BFME II came in with complex yet rather good controls. C&C series did the same. Things were shaping up for the console rts. And then Halo Wars comes along. This boring, simplistic, unadventurous pile of shite has set the genre back a few years now, even more since all the frat boys will buy it because 'it's Halo'.

Halo Wars is oversimplified because, for whatever reasons, Ensemble dropped the ball on one of the most important aspects of any RTS. Strategic base building. You are limited to only a handful of building tiles to build whatever you want. I generally find the best "strategy" is to simply take the base next door and create as many Supply Depots as possible. Use the first base to launch your entire offensive. Towers won't matter because you'll be churning units out constantly like this. I had a feeling it was going to suck myself. Not because it's a console RTS, I believe (if none exists yet) someone will someday pull it off. The control scheme of Halo as a console RTS is acceptable. I figured it'd fail because of the severe lack of unique units. You have more units between the initial commander and your tech 1 base than you do in the entire game of Halo.. I mean HALOL WARS!!
