and the poor design on combat for magic users vs melee users
that and i heard that a lot of players left after i did at some point (heard they merged a bunch of servers)

If you primarily like pve then LotRo is the way to go. However the only pvp in LotRo is in the monster play and that is rather limited. So if you like pvp AoC is the better choice. Both games are great in their own ways, it just comes down to your personal tastes.
