So I got this nasty virus while trying to download Gilligans Island for my kid to watch & After choosing season 1 episode 1, I get this window firewall alert that it found a visus but it cant delete it becaus i don't have any protection because i just moved and its a long story but anyway I decided the best thing to do was to run "drive erase pro" because i already had everything backed up and figured i'd just reinstall windows right? So anyway after running drive erase pro (i chose the fast setting because im not exactly a kgb spy or cia or anything so i figured what the hell) and back to my story, So then i ran my windows xp system restore disk (1 of 2) and i got the message disk-error please install disk and try again. So i kept opening and closing my drive bay doors to no avail. so to make a long story short I went to my storage locker & grabbed my vista CD. I was in storage because after i bought it & installed it i kept grtting the blue screen of death (we all know what that means) and it wasnt compatable with some of my software so i said screw this and re-installed xp. so anyway i threw the vista disk in there to see if there was somthing wrong with my dvd drive and it loads fine but then im stuck at the windows install screen and no options are available except the "drive options" option & when i click on that i get "failed to create a new partion on the selected unused space [0x80042453]
-and when i click on the next button i gate either "this conmputer may not support booting to disk yada yada yada" or "windows is unable to find a system volume that meets the criteria for this installation". Anyway idf anyone has any idea how to proceed on this i would appreciate it thanks.

you could go pick up a new drive for like $100 and (probably) get a shitload more space for your stuff.
idk what kind of drive you're using now, but for $100 you could get like 750 gigs.

Here's what you do...download a linux live cd on a friends computer, burn it and insert it to your computer. Than format using the 0 out option (I would go with either a 7 pass or 3 pass, DoD standard. It should clear ANY and ALL files, malwar viruses and such. What normal formatting does is only removes the directory, the data is still there but there is no link to it and it get's rewritten by new data. What Zeroing out does essentially is writing to the hdd with nothing but 0's overwriting ALL data. And the extra passes is just for more protection because even with just a 1 pass 0 out there can still be left over data. Of course you need to find a linux distro that has those options on their partitioning program. I usually use a spare hackintosh disk just for that purpose since it has a 35-pass zero out which I use once in a while just for a clean start.
Windows formatting is a joke, literally.
*edit* if that does not work than I would suggest just getting a new hdd and remember to use a standard account when using vista with the UAC on. It actually DOES improve security since standard users cannot modify ANYTHING without an administrator password (Like OS X and Linux under sudo)
