it's a reported side effect. and a dangerous one... it was usually a sign that xanax had fucked you harder than most people.
Side effects are often atypical of the normal therapeutic effects, and do not occur in every (or even most/many) of the cases. Hallucinations include 5 types, one associated with each sense (auditory, visual, tactile, etc.), and are common with many drugs that alter the chemistry of the brain and associated glands.

To say outright that hallucinations are not possible on xanax is quite ignorant of how drugs work and the variability of the human body.
