but I got a small (maybe big) problem im left handed or as some people call it southpaw and i wanted to ask guitarists there opinion on buying a right handed guitar and flipping the chords (i think thats how u spell it)

PS:right now my only option is getting a right handed guitar

Nice one man, good luck. I'd personally get an AR-15 Assault Rifle instead.

Why not just buy a left-handed guitar?

You have two (well three if if you buy a left handed guitar) options here, you can either learn to play upside down or just re-string the guitar upside down. I've played with people who have used both routes, and while playing with some who is playing upside down takes some getting used to, it's totally viable. Also, have you just thought about playing right handed? I've know several lefties who learned to play right handed. You are going to be so uncoordinated and awkward when you first start off that using your dominate hand as your strumming hand really isn't going to make much difference.

well right now were i live is Nicaragua (if u dont kno were it is its in central america and im canadian btw)and its quite hard to find a left handed guitar here and well trying to play right handed may be an option because im left handed in so things and im right handed in other for example i write with my left hand but i throw a ball with my right i eat with my left hand i kick a ball with my right my strongest arm is my right (i could keep on going for a long time)but when i grabbed a guitar for the first time holding it left handed felt much much more comfortable then holding it right handed and i dont really think i can start playing a guitar right handed because ive tryed writing with my right hand and i didnt succesed:p

and for your other option of playing the guitar upside down i think that re-stringing it would be a better option because if i ever get a guitar teacher or dvd or watever i could follow right handed instuctions much easier.

Restringing the guitar for left hand use may cause you some problems if you go electric, the buttons and that will get in the way.

Learning to play right handed might not be too bad. I'm a leftie but do many things right handed; play guitar/bass, play drums, make love. All of these I do with little bother.

Also, using a leftie guitar will get you very used to playing one, meaning you'll miss out on the joy of going into guitar shops and playing the sexy display models because very few will be left handed.

Thats my 2 cents.

alright my homie. Im lefthanded and have been playing guitar for about 4-5 years. My advice? well,

Right handed guitars will be cheaper and easier to come by. I play righthanded, and although it bothers me everyday, its not alot. Your left hand is still very much used (fretting) while playing right handed, it wont be that much of a problem. Its good that you are goana start with acoustic. This will help build strength and teach you some essential campfire chords.

lefty willl be probably 50-100 bucks more expensive, depending on where you go. My advice: go to a local music store. fuck guitar center, they will sell you an overpriced piece of shit that a million kids came by and fucked with. a local shop will want you to come back, so they will actually pay you mind

try http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Rogue-RG624-Left-Handed-Dreadnought-Acoustic-Guitar?sku=519322

not totally sure if they ship to south america but they might. musicians friend is probably the cheapest place to find what you're looking for. definately cheaper than buying from some store locally and they have a way bigger selection as well.

I've been playing guitar four or five years now, and to be honest, as a VERY right-hand empowered man, playing on a left handed guitar isn't nearly as difficult as one would imagine it would be. In my opinion I'd just pick up a right handed guitar, becuase either way, there's gonna be three months where you just plain suck at anything you try to play, so why not do it the way that 95% of other players do it?

chords are hittin two notes or more at the same time.
what you are looking for are what you call, "strings"

i guess you could go play a righty, hendrix did it.
but why dont you just stick to reggae like your man matisyahu did.

Buy a regular right handed acoustic guitar, and a tuner (usually 20$ US). Make sure the bridge on the guitar is 90 degrees to the neck. Some guitars have angled bridges, and it could make a difference if you are reversing the strings.

Make sure the guitar has no pickguard, there usually ugly, and wont help anything if your play left handed.

The guitar tech at the store you buy it at will flip the strings for you if you ask, maybe for the price of a new set of strings (5$ us).

Guitarcenter, or Musiciansfriend will ship to you, just will cost a little bit more for shipping.

I'm left-handed. I buckled up and bought a right-handed guitar. Progression will be slightly slower (especially at first) but once you get some more coordination in your hand, you'll have no problem playing. My advice though is don't get a cheap shit guitar to start off. Get a decent one. I started on a "Beginner's Guitar" and I quit two weeks later. A few months later my friend bought a standard Fender Stratocaster, which I gave a whirl. It was a completely different experience, and it was actually ENJOYABLE to play.

And to clarify, I didn't just "buy a right handed guitar", I play right handed too.
