I've played:

Ogre battle tactics (gba)
FF tactics- white lions (psp)
Fire emblem + sacred stones (gba)

I run them on emulators, so system doesn't really matter (just pref not ds)

Anyone able to recommend some for me to try?

Fallout tactics wasn't that bad if memory serves, not as good as FF tactics imo but still solid if you liked fallout.

Good luck, because in comparison to Final Fantasy Tactics there isn't any.

Give Jeanne d'Arc on PSP a try. Similiar to FFT but without the in-depth job system. If you like these types of games it is definitely worth a look.

Here is ign.coms page for it:

GREAT TACTIC TIP: every time you log in, amagine your gunna die and loose all of your stuff, keep this idea in mind until you log out.

Eastside Hockey Manager.

You can change the tactics and coach the games yourself.

Maybe thats not what your after though...

Old games like Steel Panthers or Allied General are good for tactics. You'd need DOSbox, but they are good games.

Nobunaga's Ambition (NES, SNES, PC, PS2), Romance of the Three Kingdoms (NES, SNES, PC, PS, PS2), Inindo (SNES), Lord of Darkness (SNES) are good too.

I prefer ones that have a lot of different classes and customization. Will try some of the ones mentioned so far though, thanks.

Vandal Hearts on PS1 is another good one. It employs a "rock, paper, scissors" style job system and was a pretty fun game if you can get passed the outdated graphics.

I hear you on that. I don't know if we will ever get a game on the level of FFT ever again. When the game first came out on PS1 I played through it at least 4 times in a row.

Jeanne D'Arc doesn't have the character customization that FFT does but it makes up for it in storyline and gameplay. The story is a new take on the story of Joan of Arc and is surprisingly really compelling. The gameplay is also really balanced. You can't overpower the computer AI as easily as you could in FFT. Strategy is a must.

If none of this convinces you, how about the fact that one of the characters in your party is a real life child molesting serial killer? Truly a bizarre choice to put him in the game.

I've been playing Disgaea for the DS, it's pretty fun so far but haven't gotten too far into it yet, but you might want to check it out as well.
