I just saw it today and i confess i would be interested with the advert i saw in FHM mag but upon research most of it is losers throwing tennis balls at eachother shouting 'mana bolt'


But in FHM it was hard foam swords and bows with arrows that had been blunted out or something. Therefore i confess i will do it if its any where near me.

There are loads of vids on youtube. And i reckon if you found one that want as RP as using tennis balls for magic it would be fun.

You guys are just too leet sauce irl to have fun. Its a good time. I never did the 'manabolt' thing, but i did get some foam swords and screw around. There are different groups too. Some do vampires/witches, some do fantasy, im sure there are others.

One that a friend of mine is in is pretty realistic. More like reinactment than roleplaying. They actually built armor and use wooden weapons. The really hardcore guys use real weapons, but they are blunted. So you still end up with broken bones if you arent carefull but noone gets run through.

long story short if you find it fun, do it. if not, dont.

I have attended several Murder Mystery parties. The first one which involved gangsters like Al Capone, it all felt really odd at first. But I had fun none the less. Other people in the family that was hosting it were really good. I was just a tiny character that really meant nothing to the story. But I did get killed and it was funny trying to be the character. The only reason I went is because it was my friends family having the party and he had Al Capone and didn't want to go it alone. So they wrote me a small part to join in. I would do it again with that family if they had another one.

I attend a minimum of 4 LARP fest events per year with my missus (she started as a token healer as many g/f's do) the last of which is at the end of August on the Bank Holiday. On the Monday there is traditionally a large battle which normally consists of two armies, combining 10 factions , totalling anywhere between 2-3k players on the field.

LARP ... i play patient, my girlfriend plays nurse ... doesnt necesarily mean hiting each other with paper mashay axes!! Also, people do proper scenarios etc. but with airsoft on ex-military camps. Some guns are really realistic and its great fun doing urban maps etc.

i use to ... well it wasnt larping but pretty damn close ;P
none of the magic and shit like that ... between 30-60 people got together at the park and played capture the flag.... arrows/swords ect
tip tho if u end up doin this... when u make the arrows u cut off the tip and superglue a penny to the end then wrap it in foam.. that way the arrow doesnt go threw the foam and kill the guy u just shot ;P
also pvc pipe wrapped in foam and ductape for swords...not suppose to use wood/metal bars... idea being that when u hit someone the pvc bends a bit and doesnt leave marks... unless the pipe breaks lol get some blood then... lol one kid had an axe break on his face... whole side of his face was covered (he was like 10)
anywho was lotsa fun tho ya do feel like a bit of a goober wearin armor and shit lol sok tho cause everyone else is as big a goober as u.. ;P

LARP sucks, better try historic reenactment. There are several groups in the UK who have specialised in themes of their interrest and some are even doing battles. Romans, Medieval, Renaissance, Napoleonic, WWII, choose whatever you like.

If you ask: 'Where's the difference between LARP and Reenactement?':

1) Better costumes
2) Historic background
3) You can tell your friends about it without them laughing at you
4) You get real-looking (blunt) weapons
5) In Reenactement, Elves won't try to ass-rape you.

OT:

The biggest issue I have with LARP is the overall cheesiness. I know that not everyone can be an expert costume maker, but most pictures I've seen from LARP events are just sad.

D-grade masks, plastic swords, towels for capes, paper hats...they could at least put some effort in their hobby.
During all-weekend events there are even people who will only respond unless you call them by their character name. I like to RP, but there got to be some limits.

You basically dress up like lotr, wow, etc... and fight in organised battles in woods etc...

I just saw it today and i confess i would be interested with the advert i saw in FHM mag but upon research most of it is losers throwing tennis balls at eachother shouting 'mana bolt'


But in FHM it was hard foam swords and bows with arrows that had been blunted out or something. Therefore i confess i will do it if its any where near me.

There are loads of vids on youtube. And i reckon if you found one that want as RP as using tennis balls for magic it would be fun.

Btw i live in kent south east england if anyone has any info.

Just for an example:
Every year in Germany there is a LARP called "Conquest of Mythodea (http://www.live-adventure.de/ConQuest/en/start.php)" for 5 days with around 5000 people.
Here you can watch some trailers (http://www.live-adventure.de/ConQuest/trailer.php) from the last years...

It really is fun, when 2000 people are charging at each other, archers firing in battalions and balistas shooting at the palisade. :D

I've done it a couple of times and it is nothing like wow or lotr...dunno which one you went to but I went to something called Kanar and it is realtime not the gay d&d version. Takes real skill, you hit someone and it counts no matter how fast. You can carry a shield and block and such. It's actually pretty fun.
