The extent of my coding skills is writing Code Caves for Punkbuster Bypasses in ASM.
A few trainers and C++ hooks.
Just enough to be dangerous hahahahahahaha

A lot of developers are doing amazing things mixing languages.
The first thing that comes to mind is Civ4.
Its layered using XML, but written in a mix of Python and C++.
Personally, I love python, but C++/Java are just too widely used to not have a decent knowledge of their syntax at the very least.

My concern was more along the lines of performance even well written java is no match for C++ (assuming the same hardware and OS)

/agree
However, there are a variety of layering utilities out there that make Java much quicker to write in.
I doubt they are going all out on elegance and having everything run in best O(min) time-min # of processes per function/class. At this point the pull and drags of these utilities are probably what they are using; its a mad dash to finish as it is.

yea, but if they let other people in it won't be the same 30 person group they will whine about for the next 3 years.
