But much like Fidel Castro, the guy did do something spectacular. He single handedly took control of an entire country. His daddy didn't buy him a presidency. He actually did some killing, unlike some of US presidents, the current one and the one soon to be. George W "missed" a war. Obama never even tried. Would Clinton have had enough cojones to take control of USA at point of a gun? Doubt it.

So even though he was an asshole and evil and gassed his own people, he accomplished something that nobody here in all likelihood would have been able to accomplish, become a ruler by your own hand and rule for nearly three decades. That's more than any US president ever did. Granted, they can't be elected more than twice, but still. Same with Castro, except he is still ticking...barely, he's got nearly 20 years on Saddam, and will probably die a natural death of old age. Or is he dead already? Sorry, haven't been following that lately.

Saddam attacked another country, fought US and got a draw, stayed in power after that, and it took the kid of his old enemy a whole of 9/11 to get enough support from several other nations, most notably UK, to finally pull him down and kill him. And Castro survived how many assassination attempts by CIA? Too numerous to mention. And like an Energizer bunny, he just keeps on going.

That's pretty impressive. The fact that Saddam also went like a man, without apologies or regrets, and wasn't chicken and didn't off himself like Hitler, actually played in the hands of the terrorist groups, they'll be using that footage for decades. The country will probably be better for it though, after he's gone.
